As an Area Relief II Direct Support Professional (DSP-AR II), this person is a shining examples of PCL’s mission in action. They can walk into any situation, confidently pick up where needed, maintain a positive attitude and reassure that people are supported. They have a diverse skill set and can support people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who may also need enhanced medical or behavioral health support. The role of the DSP-AR II is to provide stability and mentorship to their team members and the people they support.  DSP AR-II team members understand the vision and intentional structure of our Children and Transitional Service (T&C). They understand the child’s needs and promote person-centered practices and encourage individuality, dignity, and respect. Through dedication to a non-judgmental, inclusive philosophy, this team member competently provides the specialized supports designed to meet the unique needs of children with I/DD who need transitional services outside their family home or in different settings, or an adult with I/DD in need of transitional supports related to crisis and stabilization. It is pivotal that people in this position see the bigger picture. This is a path to help someone learn through life’s great, fun, and challenging experiences, and experience life to the fullest.

Wage & Benefits: $25.00 per hour

Position Type: Full-Time, 35-40 hours weekly with additional compensated overtime during on-call week

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age when starting employment.
  • Must have at least 1 year of employment or volunteer experience with People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
  • Must have and show basic computer skills and can learn agency applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Cooperative and willing to learn.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions.
  • Enhanced math skills – must be able to accurately balance a budget and basic math transactions.
  • Professional, clear, and positive oral and written communication skills both expressive and receptive.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English (reasonable accommodation may be made for some positions).
  • PCL’s Team members must have dependable, reliable, and regular work attendance, and must adhere to attendance policies.

Job Duties:

  • This position requires that you be able to work a variety of shifts. Including, but not limited to, days, swings, awake overnights, and live-in positions. Working weekends (Saturday and Sunday) is a requirement for this position. The working location of your schedule varies.

  • The work schedule is given to you at least two weeks in advance.

  • You will be scheduled for a minimum of 35 hours each week except for the week you are on-call.

  • You will be on-call for one week every five weeks and will be expected to work up to 20 hours of overtime during the on-call week, as needed.

  • Daily tasks involve distributing medications, cooking, house cleaning, working through challenging behaviors, and intimate care.
  • Promote and implement PCL’s mission in the lives of those we support.
  • Provide a stable living environment by respecting dignity, individual choice, input, and health and safety needs.
  • Be deeply knowledgeable about Trauma-Informed Care practices, disability-specific support needs, and alternative communication methods (e.g., electronic, body language, and physical and emotional cues).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and transfer 50 pounds minimum.
  • Appropriately and efficiently responding to emergencies and/or crises (including but not limited to the use of physical intervention).

Certifications and Training:

  • Must pass required DHS background check and Protective Service Investigations.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and to be eligible to drive agency vehicles.
  • Complete and maintain all certifications as required by the position, PCL, and other governing agencies.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification to a satisfactory level in Oregon Intervention System (training provided if hired).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR (training provided if hired).
  • Complete all duties related to being a Mandatory Abuse Reporter.
  • New hire orientation and on-site training must be completed within 60 days of hire.
