Job Summary:
Working under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO) is responsible for evaluating, creating, and implementing all development, fundraising, and communication/marketing strategies. With a donor-centered approach, the CDCO cultivates and maintains strategic, mission-focused relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporate partnerships to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue portfolio. The CDCO serves as a spokesperson for the organization, coordinates with media, and addresses public relations inquiries. The CDCO creates and effectively manages all annual marketing and communications plans to build a consistent brand, develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, and promote the organization to the greater public. The CDCO is responsible for research and cultivation of new donors, stewarding current donors, maintains the organization’s major gift pipelines, and oversees all Marketing/Development activities and staff.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, marketing, communications, or related field required. Master’s degree in the above or similar desired.
Experience:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in non-profit management, philanthropy, and/or fundraising required with an emphasis on strategic, mission-focused fundraising efforts and partnerships, including multi-year campaigns, annual giving, etc.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct supervisory/management experience also required.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong project management to include budgeting, teamwork, facilitation, problem-solving, decision making, program planning, evaluation, and report preparation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make strategic, data-informed decisions with excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office and donor-centric or communications applications (e.g. WordPress, donor databases, CRMs, etc.). Partnership currently uses Neon as our CRM.
  • Demonstrated ability to network effectively and enthusiastically and successfully engage in one-on-one solicitation and ongoing donor stewardship at interpersonal and corporate levels.
  • Ability to facilitate a wide range of philanthropic work, including solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate donors as well as cultivation of and research on donors and potential donors.
  • Ability to evaluate own performance, capability, and limitations and to recognize and control own biases.
  • Ability to create and maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion when handling proprietary information (e.g. personnel, clients, donors, etc.).
  • Ability to listen to and balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to achieve individual and organizational goals.
  • Ability to thrive and be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge or Certification(s):
  • Knowledge of fundraising and development/philanthropy best practices, including business, fiscal, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of multi-year fundraising campaigns, strategic planning, and integrating the two.
