Collections Specialist
Allentown, PA | up to $35/hr | Temp-to-Hire (6 months) | 5 days onsite
A growing fire protection and life safety services organization is seeking a Collections / Accounts Receivable Specialist to take ownership of a high-volume AR portfolio (~500–800 accounts, ~$5M outstanding). This is a hands-on, standalone collections role supporting a fast-paced, acquisition-driven environment currently transitioning from QuickBooks to SAP.
This role requires strong follow-through, excellent organization, and the ability to drive cash collections while partnering closely with finance, operations, and field service teams.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end collections for assigned AR accounts, including daily follow-up via phone and email
- Monitor aging reports and prioritize past-due balances based on risk and aging status
- Post and apply customer payments (check, ACH/EFT, credit card) accurately in the accounting system
- Reconcile accounts, resolve billing/payment discrepancies, and support month-end close activities
- Maintain detailed notes, payment history, and account status updates in AR system
- Send statements, past-due notices, and escalation communications as needed
- Partner with internal teams (billing, operations, service) to resolve disputes and improve cash flow
- Support AR reporting, weekly reviews, and collections performance tracking
- Maintain organized digital records and assist with ad hoc finance/admin projects as needed
What We’re Looking For
- 3 years of AR / collections experience in a professional environment
- Strong understanding of basic accounting and AR workflows (aging, reconciliations, payment application)
- Comfortable managing high-volume collections and persistent customer follow-up
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables preferred)
- Experience with ERP systems (QuickBooks experience required; SAP exposure a plus)
- Strong communication skills—professional, firm, and solution-oriented
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize
- Self-directed, dependable, and comfortable working onsite 5 days per week
- Experience in field service, construction, or contracting environments is a plus
