Electrical Engineer II – Embedded Power Electronics & Motor Control

Location: Anderson, South Carolina

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer II to join our engineering team and take ownership of the hardware design and implementation of embedded power electronics for next-generation battery-powered products.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging hardware problems, working close to the prototype, and seeing designs move from concept through testing and production. You will play a key role in power conversion, motor control, embedded electronics, and product development, collaborating closely with hardware, firmware, product development, and test engineering teams.

This position is onsite at our headquarters in Anderson, South Carolina.

What You'll Do

  • Own the design and development of power electronics hardware for battery-powered products, from architecture and component selection through schematic development, prototyping, testing, and design validation.
  • Design and troubleshoot MOSFET-based switching power stages and supporting circuits, including gate drivers, protection circuits, current and voltage sensing, and power sequencing.
  • Develop and support motor control hardware, including inverter/bridge power stages, sensing, and protection circuitry.
  • Partner with firmware engineers to define and optimize hardware/firmware interfaces for embedded systems.
  • Build, test, debug, and troubleshoot electronic prototypes while driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Lead hardware development activities including:
  • Component selection and engineering tradeoffs
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB design and layout support
  • Prototype builds
  • Hardware bring-up
  • Test plan development and execution
  • Design verification and validation
  • Use laboratory equipment to evaluate and troubleshoot designs, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, ESD/EMC equipment, data acquisition systems, and analysis software.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify technical risks, resolve issues, and keep product development on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and help drive accountability across project teams.
  • Independently manage assigned projects and engineering deliverables while following the organization's stage-gate product development process.
  • Balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced product development environment while maintaining a strong focus on quality, performance, reliability, and schedule.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3 years of experience designing embedded electronic hardware with demonstrated ownership of hardware development.
  • Experience designing 32-bit microcontroller-based circuits; firmware experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with power conversion and/or motor drive systems in embedded hardware applications.
  • Practical experience designing and debugging MOSFET switching circuits for low-voltage battery systems, particularly in the 20–80V range.
  • Strong understanding of gate-drive design, switching behavior, protection techniques, current/voltage sensing, and power-stage design.
  • Knowledge of electronic component selection and the ability to evaluate engineering tradeoffs related to performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools, such as Altium or an equivalent platform.
  • Ability to provide occasional PCB layout support and work effectively with PCB designers.
  • Strong hands-on laboratory and troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a hands-on, self-motivated engineer who enjoys taking ownership of challenging technical problems. You are comfortable moving between design work, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration.

You bring strong organizational skills, sound engineering judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. You communicate clearly, take initiative, and are comfortable driving projects forward in a dynamic product development environment.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to work on high-performance battery-powered products while contributing directly to the development of embedded power electronics and motor-control technologies. You'll have the opportunity to influence designs from the architecture stage through prototype development, validation, and production.

If you're an electrical engineer with strong power electronics and embedded hardware experience and want to build innovative battery-powered products, we'd like to hear from you.
