The Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) responsibilities include managing a caseload of clients using evidence-based/ person centered principles to develop, implement and coordinate an occupational therapy program.  This individual will provide screening, evaluation and treatment to clients to assist them in gaining functional skills.  The OTR/L will select the activities most appropriate to the client.  Service provisions may include direct, monitored and consultative approaches.  Problems that arise in the treatment program are expected to be resolved independently.  The OTR/L will maintain a caseload of 75% productivity providing OT services to clients.   The OTR/L is expected to provide services that place the highest priority on the ethical delivery of therapy with the best interests of the clients at the center of his/her efforts.  The OTR/L maintains a professional and ethical relationship with Partners In Excellence’s clients and fellow employees.  Partners is looking for 2 OTR/Ls, one for our Burnsville site, and the other for the Minnetonka location.

Essential Functions

  • Document therapy services accurately and timely in accordance with facility and Federal Regulations (i.e. daily service notes, assessments, treatment plans and doctor orders for services, communications, client information, reporting parent and Partners communications and client information and etc.)
  • Provide screenings, evaluations and direct therapy to clients in a 1:1 medical model ensuring goals and objectives are being met
  • Coordinates and completes client assessments, tracks due dates for P/A and new treatment plans
  • Work with minimal supervision to provide direct therapy using skills, techniques and expectations detailed in AOTA Scope of Practice, Standard of Practice and facility policies and procedures
  • Complete the required technical training and participates in ongoing training opportunities
  • Redirect, intervene, observe, and monitor client behaviors
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members
  • Make sound decisions and use good judgment when dealing with clients, parents, and coworkers
  • Demonstrate dependability and consistency in therapy and other job related activities
  • Communicate daily progress and client concerns to the appropriate staff members
  • Communicates and work with all members of the treatment team and shares information with team members in formal and informal settings, i.e. Rehab rounds
  • Organize and clean therapy space and equipment
  • Assist in keeping the facility safe, organized, sanitary, and guide others to do the same
  • Conduct various assessments as deemed appropriate
  • Guide treatment team on how to properly implement and carryover OT goals in the PODS
  • Assist clients with personal care including: dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, food, nutrition, and diet needs
  • Attend and participate in meetings
  • Report all safety concerns to the Safety Director or his/her direct supervisor
  • Provide leadership and clinical supervision to COTA/L’s providing direct OT treatment
  • Provide direct therapy through various activities
  • Formally and informally mentor newly hired staff
  • Promotes an awareness of the OT role to parents and Partners staff
  • Provide in-service trainings to staff as directed or requested
  • Assist with interviews and selecting applicants for hire in the OT Department
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times                        
  • Greet parents and clients by name and engages in respectful conversations with clients and fellow employees
  • Engage only in competent exchanges of information with parents. Seeks assistance when necessary.
  • Use discretion when discussing personal information with coworkers and parents
  • Answer basic questions from parents or seeks answers from others
  • Take a proactive approach to solving problems   
  • Recognize appropriate steps toward problem resolution and seek assistance from immediate supervisor as needed
  • Follow supervisor’s directions
  • Maintain a positive attitude and accept feedback from supervisors in a respectful and constructive manner
  • Promote Partners’ mission statement at and away from work                             
  • In order to effectively fulfill the duties of an Occupational Therapist Registered and Licensed with the State of Minnesota and Wisconsin (OTR/L), you will have access to protected health information (PHI) of many of Partners’ clients. It is your responsibility to be fully knowledgeable of Partners in Excellence’s Privacy Policies and Procedures and to report any violations to your supervisor or the Privacy Official (see Partners’ Privacy Policies and Procedures Manual – Staff Compliance and Sanctions). It is the responsibility of the Occupational Therapist Registered and Licensed with the State of Minnesota and Wisconsin (OTR/L) to protect Partners’ clients’ privacy at and away from work.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • OTR/L Certification from NBCOT or AOTA as well as title licensure from Minnesota and/or Wisconsin Department of Health
  • General knowledge of typical and special needs clients
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Successfully passed an initial and subsequent background checks (no history of felonies, substantiated client maltreatment or vulnerable adult incidents, or disqualifying misdemeanors)
  • Must have some experience and be interested in working with children and possess the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic, and bring a high level of energy into the therapeutic situation
  • Must have good hygiene; strong cologne, body and pet odor, cigarette smoke and fragrances may be offensive and interfere with cohesiveness of staff and clients.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to administer and write assessments/evaluations, treatment plans and progress notes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Acquire and maintain active membership with National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous behavioral therapy experience
  • Knowledge of teaching procedures associated with Verbal Behavior Therapy
  • Previous therapy experience working with children with autism
  • Valid driver’s license
