Position Summary
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations for a large outdoor waterpark, ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of rides, attractions, pools, facilities, and grounds. This leadership role requires exceptional management skills, strong technical knowledge of facility systems, and a deep understanding of pool operations, water quality management, and aquatic safety standards.
The Director of Maintenance leads a team of technicians and maintenance staff to maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for guests and employees while ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities/Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team including department supervisors, facility service members, and pool technicians
- Establish clear goals, schedules, and performance expectations for maintenance staff
- Create a culture focused on safety, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence
- Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage during operating and non-operating hours
- Manage hiring, training, and performance evaluations for the maintenance department
Facility & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance for all waterpark attractions, slides, pumps, filtration systems, mechanical systems, electrical infrastructure, buildings, and grounds
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment lifespan and minimize downtime
- Manage repairs, upgrades, and capital improvement projects throughout the park
- Ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently during peak seasonal operations
Aquatics Systems & Pool Operations
- Maintain operational oversight of all pools, lazy rivers, wave pools, and water attractions
- Ensure proper operation of filtration systems, chemical automation systems, pumps, and circulation equipment
- Monitor water chemistry, sanitation, and compliance with local health department standards
- Maintain safe and efficient water quality systems to protect guest health and safety
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding aquatic facilities and amusement attractions
- Maintain all safety documentation, inspections, and operational logs
- Coordinate ride and attraction inspections with regulatory agencies and third-party inspectors
- Implement safety training programs for maintenance staff
Budgeting & Inventory
- Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget
- Control costs while maintaining high operational standards
- Manage inventory of tools, parts, chemicals, and supplies
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or services
Operational Support
- Support daily park operations by ensuring attractions and facilities are fully functional before opening
- Respond quickly to operational issues or equipment failures during park hours
- Participate in operational planning for seasonal openings, closures, and special events
Qualifications/Required
- Management experience in facility maintenance, waterparks, amusement parks, aquatic facilities, or similar operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Docs
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Knowledge of facility maintenance including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
- Solid understanding of pool operations, water chemistry, filtration systems, and aquatic safety standards
- Experience implementing preventative maintenance programs
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification
- Experience working with waterpark attractions, ride systems, or large-scale aquatic facilities
- OSHA safety training or certifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spaces when necessary
- Ability to respond to emergency situations throughout the park
