Position Summary
The Periodontal Surgical Assistant will work chairside with the periodontist during surgical and non-surgical procedures, providing support to ensure efficient, safe, and comfortable patient care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a clinical environment, pays strong attention to detail, and enjoys helping patients feel at ease.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the periodontist during periodontal and implant surgeries, including surgical setups and breakdowns.
- Maintain a sterile surgical environment, including proper instrument sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Take digital radiographs and intraoral photographs as needed.
- Accurately chart periodontal conditions and treatment information.
- Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients with professionalism and compassion.
- Monitor and support patients during procedures to ensure comfort and safety.
- Maintain and order surgical and clinical supplies.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a dental or surgical assistant (periodontal or oral surgery experience preferred).
- Current Dental Assisting certification required.
- Current BLS certification.
- Knowledge of infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to practice protocols.
