Pharmacy Support Specialist

PHARMACY SUPPORT

Pharmacy Support performs functions to obtain and process prescriptions to prepare the pharmacy fulfillment team to dispense and ship medications, while working within the limits of established policies.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide support to Pharmacists by entering prescription information, submitting claims for payment, and handling patient questions and concerns regarding medications and delivery.

• Assist in the prior authorization process to expedite prescription fulfillment.

• Communicate by phone and email with facilities, payors, and prescribers regarding issues concerning prescriptions and to obtain proper authorizations and prescription details to refill prescriptions.

• Gather and document demographics to be used to fill prescriptions as well as to coordinate billing of medications to be dispensed by the pharmacy.

• Monitor and triage incoming faxes/documents and process incoming orders. File, fax, and copy various materials as needed.

• Perform other related duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES:

• Proven experience as a highly effective communicator with internal and external customers; includes listening, speaking, understanding, and writing in English

. • Excellent computer skills with proficiencies with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and pharmacy systems.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks or in a team setting while focused on detail, accuracy, and productivity.

• Ability to track and monitor progress of workflows to maintain timely delivery of medications.

• Working knowledge of medical terminology, medication names, and pharmacy sig codes.

• Basic pharmacy billing knowledge.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum of one year’s experience working in a pharmacy. Working knowledge of pharmacy sig codes, medications, and electronic claim submissions strongly preferred
