Job Summary: The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for the leadership and oversight necessary to provide appetizing, appealing and nourishing food to residents with a variety of dietary needs.
Qualifications: Three years of experience in food service with a minimum of one year in a supervisory position. Possession of CDM credentials or a degree in nutrition, dietetics or closely related field preferred, but not required. The Director of Nutrition Services is also required to have an ability to read, write and speak English, and complete and pass a state required background study form which checks for certain criminal convictions or serious/recurring maltreatment.
General Responsibilities:
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, assigning, evaluation and orientating employees in the dietary department.
- Responsible for the In-service training and development programs within the department.
- Responsible for establishing and updating procedures to be used within the department.
- Responsible for control of departmental costs respecting the budget prepared for the department.
- Responsible for ordering, receiving and stock control of routing departmental supplies.
- Responsible to work with dietician and DON in preparing regular and special diets as prescribed by the resident’s physician.
- Responsible for following all sanitary regulations governing the handling, preparation and serving of food.
- Consulting with the dietician (full or part-time or dietary consultant) regarding operating problems, patient food service, and therapeutic diets.
- Orienting, training, supervising and evaluating new staff.
- Instructing employees in use, care, and maintenance of equipment
- Preparing work and time schedules for food service employees.
- Supervising sanitation and housekeeping procedures.
- Maintaining safety standards.
- Ordering food supplies.
- Receiving deliveries and checking receipts against specifications and orders.
- Supervising activities of work areas, dining rooms, and the dishwashing room.
- Employee scheduling, approval of time sheets
- Completion of the MDS as delegated by the MDS coordinator.
- Complete nutrition risk assessments.
- Participate in care conferences weekly.
- Participate in disaster planning drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when on duty.
- Maintain awareness and follow use of safety devices according to the care plan and suggests their use when appropriate.
- Develop knowledge of actions to be implemented in emergency situations.
- Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures.
- Follow all policies and procedures governing the operation of Minnewaska Community Health Services.
- Must understand and adhere to all Vulnerable Adult Abuse Prevention Policies.
- Adheres to HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
