Duties
- Prepare and assemble meals according to dietary guidelines, menus, and resident preferences, ensuring adherence to all nutritional and safety standards.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, mixers, and refrigeration units, following proper sanitation procedures.
- Assist with food production tasks such as chopping, portioning, plating, and serving meals in a timely manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including counters, utensils, and equipment, in compliance with health regulations like JCAHO standards.
- Handle food safely by practicing proper food handling techniques, manual handling procedures, and safe lifting practices to prevent injuries.
- Support the dietary department by bussing tables, cleaning dining areas, and assisting with meal delivery to residents or patients.
- Follow all workplace safety protocols including PPE use, manual handling guidelines, and emergency procedures such as CPR when required.
Requirements
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated culinary experience with a focus on nutrition and food preparation for diverse populations.
- Knowledge of food safety standards including sanitation practices and safe food handling procedures.
- Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of adhering to dietary requirements for residents with special needs or restrictions.
- Experience working with geriatric patients or in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
- Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management; excellent customer service skills are a plus.
- Certifications such as CPR and knowledge of workplace safety protocols are desirable.
