General Duties
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for the well-being of each child in his or her care. The Assistant Teacher works full time or part-time and may work with a Lead Teacher, an Associate Teacher, or alone. Together with the teaching staff, the Assistant Teacher follows planned activities throughout the day to educate, nurture, and guide the children. She is responsible for carrying out any and all policies, procedures and objectives of the Early Learning Center set by the ELC Committee and LDOE Licensing regulations
Relationships
The Assistant Teacher:
- is directly responsible on a daily basis to the Director and/or Assistant Director for accomplishment of duties as assigned.
- is responsible to the lead teacher for classroom management.
- works with parents on a daily basis and assists them as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Teacher will :
- provide and maintain a Christian environment in which the children may grow physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
- be in the classroom at the assigned time and work according to the schedule provided.
- guide and interact with children at all times.
- reinforce the unit of study with interaction including visual aids, games, and conversation with children.
- cooperate with other teachers in enforcing classroom management procedures.
- give each child the attention needed to assure his best welfare relating to eating, toileting, sleeping, playing, working, health care, and safety.
- deal with child behavior issues as the need arises.
- report, immediately, and incident affecting the well-being of any child to the Lead teacher, Assistant Director, or Director.
- report any parental or child behavioral concerns to the Lead Teacher, Assistant Director, and/or Director.
- identify children with medical symptoms and transfer the child to the Director or Assistant Director’s care.
- insure that each child leaves only with a parent or authorized pick-up person.
- involve the children in cleanup.
- maintain a clean and safe learning environment for the children.
- assist in the performance of the daily opening and/or closing checklist.
- work fully and cooperatively in carrying out all tasks of the program.
- attend all staff meetings as required.
- participate in special events and programs as required.
- complete state-required training by July 31 of each year and other training as required.
- accept and be flexible to continuous changes designed to enhance the program.
- complete other duties as assigned.
Note: The above duties are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Our ministry at Parkview Baptist Early Learning Center is a team ministry. Therefore, additional duties may be assigned from time to time as emergencies and other situations dictate.
Pay: $11.64 - $12.27 per hour
