Duties Description
Under the general supervision of the Park Manager, the incumbent may be required to perform a variety of duties as needed that may include but not be limited to:
• May perform semi-skilled tasks such as carpentry tasks (minor wood replacement and building repairs), plumbing tasks (faucet changing and bathroom winterizing), electrical tasks (changing switches and light fixtures, light bulbs, and breakers), masonry tasks (pouring sidewalks and pads), and mechanical repairs (oil changes, sharpening blades, replacing belts and hoses).
• Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of lower level-employees.
• Perform maintenance and repair tasks on park facilities, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
• Inspect and maintain areas to ensure they are clean and safe for public use, including trash collection, restroom maintenance, and minor repairs. Report any issues or concerns to supervisory staff.
• Provide excellent customer service to park visitors, answering questions, providing information, and ensuring a positive experience.
• Participate in the setup and breakdown of park events and activities.
• Perform snow and ice removal during the winter months.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, and materials consumed.
• Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
• Operate regional commercial vehicles for various projects as needed.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Complete inspections, gather data and produce reports ensuring information is complete and accurate and submitted by given deadlines.
• Assist with inventory of facility supplies, materials, tools, and equipment as assigned.
• May operate and maintain various types of machinery and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and small engines.
• May assist with landscaping tasks, including planting, pruning, mowing, and general groundskeeping.
• May assist with the implementation of conservation and environmental programs.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class B** Commercial Driver's License that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
• Must possess a NYS Category 7A Pesticide Technician Certification from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation or be able to obtain a NYS Category 7A Pesticide Technician Certification within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be capable of frequently lifting 25-50 pounds and occasionally lifting 51-100 pounds.
**Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation and Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

Salary : $42,641 - $52,413
