What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Pool Lifeguard position at Parkersburg YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary duty of a YMCA Lifeguard is to ensure the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator. Lifeguards will enforce all YMCA policies and procedures to create a safe and positive atmosphere for members and staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be at least 15 years of age.
· Must possess and maintain current CPR/AED & First Aid certification.
· Must possess and maintain current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training.
· Ability to pass pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness and be knowledgeable of emergency procedures
· Enforce the pool rules in an appropriate, fair and professional manner and explain the reason for the rules when needed.
· Assist patrons as needed, but without compromising the safety of others.
· Follow the policies and procedures set in the Aquatics/Lifeguard Staff Manual.
· Exhibit a professional attitude at all times and greet each patron
· Ensure non-swimmers are fitted with correct floatation devices and administer swim tests
· Monitor pool chemicals and report unsafe water conditions
· Be on time and cover all assigned hours.
· Attend lifeguard in-services.
· Help maintain cleanliness of the pool area
ASSESSMENT MEASURES include, but not limited to:
· Assist other members of management when needed to support the overall mission of the YMCA. (Team Player)
· Find a substitute to cover one’s shift when needed
· Be on time and cover all assigned hours.
· Participate in random and scheduled lifeguard drills
