This non-exempt position is responsible for supporting the maintenance of district buildings, facilities, and grounds by performing a wide range of skilled and unskilled labor. Responsibilities vary and include equipment operation, repair, and maintenance under the supervision of the District Services Lead and District Services Supervisor. Responding to internal and external customer service requests is also a key responsibility of the role.

Works under the direct supervision of the District Services Lead and the District Services Supervisor and the general direction of the Operations Program Manager.
Summary Description
District Services Technician (I and II)
District Services Technicians are responsible for supporting the maintenance and upkeep of District buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This includes performing a wide range of skilled and unskilled tasks such as landscaping, snow removal, facility repairs, and the operation of light to heavy equipment. Technicians respond to internal and external service requests and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and courteously under the supervision of the District Services Lead and/or Supervisor. The team plays a critical role in ensuring functional, safe, and presentable workspaces and environments across district properties. As highly adaptable professionals, District Services personnel are the designated resource for tasks that fall outside of defined departmental scopes, providing essential operational continuity across the organization.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (All Levels):
Facility and Infrastructure Maintenance

Perform general maintenance of facilities and grounds, including mowing, snow removal, road grading, and landscape upkeep.

Conduct routine and non-routine inspections of District assets (e.g., fire extinguishers, AEDs, eye wash stations, safety cabinets), identifying and addressing issues promptly.

Perform and assist with the repair, installation, and upkeep of building systems and infrastructure.

Troubleshoot and resolve facility-related problems independently or in coordination with contractors and vendors.
Trade Work and Technical Support

Complete a variety of general trade tasks such as basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, welding, and locksmith work.

Perform targeted facility improvements such as lock repair, irrigation system maintenance, fence repair, and specialized landscape projects.

Apply herbicides to control noxious weeds in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Equipment Operation and Material Handling

Safely operate light-to-heavy equipment including mowers, skid-steers, man-lifts, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, trailers, and snow plows.

Conduct material movement tasks such as dirt removal, road maintenance, equipment relocation, and loading/unloading of trucks.

Support warehouse operations through assistance with deliveries, receiving, and material handling.

Assist with minor vehicle maintenance and service-related tasks.
Project and Event Support

Support District events, meetings, and special projects by assisting with logistics, facility preparation, and equipment setup.

Serve as a go-to resource for ad hoc tasks and cross-departmental coordination, providing rapid, flexible, and professional support.
Communication, Collaboration, and Safety

Respond to service requests from staff and customers with professionalism; escalate complex or specialized issues to appropriate personnel.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment; perform routine housekeeping of work areas and facilities.

Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and the public to support team coordination and service excellence.

Attend required safety and technical training sessions, staying current on procedures, protocols, and best practices.

District Services Technician I
Entry-level position; works under immediate supervision. This level is developmental, focused on learning job duties, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
District Services Technician II
Requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Performs the same duties as Technician I with increased independence and is qualified to operate CDL-required vehicles and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices and procedures.

Knowledge of the operation and repair of light-to-heavy motorized equipment.

Knowledge of basic / light maintenance of fleet vehicles.

Basic knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment and the ability to apply safety principles on all job tasks. Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances, act accordingly to prevent accidents, and promptly report accidents and hazardous conditions.

Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Ability to make solid and responsible decisions using independent judgment and personal initiative. Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule work to meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision. Ability to work professionally with supervisors and co-workers, and deal tactfully with the public.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to follow verbal directions and written policies and procedures accurately and completely.

Ability to operate hand and power tools and light-to-heavy motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Qualifications/Experience
-
District Services Technician I – Zero to 2 years of experience in grounds and general facilities maintenance; and operation and maintenance of light-to-heavy motorized equipment.

District Services Technician II – 2-5 years of experience in grounds and general facilities maintenance; and operation and maintenance of vehicles and light-to-heavy motorized equipment. Must have a valid Colorado Class A CDL

Must have a Motor Vehicle Record within the Acceptable or no less than Borderline rating according to the Vehicle Policy.

Additional education, licensing or training may be required depending upon current level of experience.
Working Conditions/Physical Activities
-
Monday through Friday, 40 hours per work week, may occasionally have to work on weekends and holidays.
-
May be subject to mandatory overtime on an as needed basis to work within the department and for other duties as assigned.
-
Performs strenuous physical labor and stands for extended periods of time.
-
May work in a wastewater plant or agricultural environment where elevated levels of noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are always present. May come into contact with raw wastewater. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended and is offered at no cost by the District.

Work may take place outside in all weather conditions. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards.

Lifting and handling objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
-
Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, reaching, climbing (heights), stretching and working in awkward positions.

Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment, read, record and interpret information. Must be able to communicate with other employees, vendors and the public.

Qualifications:The hiring range for this position will be dependent upon experience and CDL license. The range for each level is listed below.
Tech I: $29.65- $34.88 per hour
Tech II: $34.58 - $40.68 per hour
