Position Summary


The Engineering Specialist will operate, maintain, and trouble-shoot our wastewater treatment system, chemical lines, and adhesive churn rooms and their processes required to produce high quality rubber to metal products. Performs duties in accordance with company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State, Federal, Local, and Industry standards including; State & Federal OSHA & Environmental regulations, AS9100, NADCAP, and more. This position falls within the scope of the FAA Drug and Alcohol program. Potential candidate must pass an FAA Drug Screen upon hire and submit to random testing as required.


Responsibilities


  • SPECIFIC DUTIES:

    The duties of this job include, but are not limited to:


    General:

    • Perform air quality checks at various locations throughout the area.
    • Operate electric/manual hand jitney’s, fork trucks and other material handling equipment.
    • Understand and follow drawings, specifications, procedures, and instructions.

    • Aggressively promote an orderly, clean work environment.
    • Complete all product paperwork/computer transactions accurately and timely, including stockroom control transactions, utilizing word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and MRPII system (SAP).
    • Contribute ideas to improve manufacturing processes and methods, improve efficiencies, and support lean and cost saving initiatives.
    • Acquire all technical skills required to produce acceptable quality products. These skills include:
      • All aspects of metal preparation, including mechanical blasting and chemical processing. (Salt Fog Testing, Paint Adhesion Testing, etc.)

      • All aspects of SPC control of chemical processing lines including testing, data collection, and adjustment to bath concentrations.

      • All aspects of primer and adhesive preparation and testing.

    • Ability to be trained on Hazardous material waste management.

    • Ability to be trained on Recycling waste management.

    • Perform other similar and related duties.

    Spray Room/Churn Room:

    • Mix up adhesives and/or coatings in drums, churns and/or pressure tanks to specifications.
    • Test viscosities, check temperatures and make corrections when necessary.
    • Maintain an adequate supply of raw materials on hand that are needed for the adhesives and coatings. (Solvents, rubber, etc.)
    • Coordinate material expiration date extensions by communicating with the required Engineers.
    • Perform Churn room PM’s when required.
    • Audit stock and paint cabinets for expired materials.

    Waste Water Treatment:

    • Operate, monitor, and maintain deionized (DI) water systems.
    • Operate Chemline wastewater treatment system and coordinate waste removal.
      • Replace filters in the wastewater system as needed.

      • Maintain inventory and levels of all wastewater treatment chemicals.

      • Troubleshoot issues regarding wastewater treatment and contact engineering or maintenance when required.

      • Daily calibrations and water quality testing.

      • Perform WWT PM’s when required.

    Titrations of Chemline lines:

    • Safely operate in a chemical lab environment and influence/lead others to do the same.
    • Perform various process operations including titrations of chemical baths and chemical bath adjustments to ensure tanks are running at optimum concentrations.
    • Maintain proper records of tests performed.
    • Maintain lab equipment and work with contracted firms to ensure equipment PM’s and certifications are up to date.
    • Make up various chemical solutions for testing or production purposes.
    • Perform Chemline PM’s when required.
    • Perform other laboratory testing and tasks as required.

    • Maintain chemical ordering and inventory control of Chemline chemicals.


Qualifications

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduate with strong aptitude in math and technical problem solving
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Work with limited supervision once trained in the area.
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work in the chemical processing area.
NON-MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prior chemical laboratory or chemical metal processing experience.
  • Familiarity with chemical titrations and safe laboratory practices.
  • Experience with PLC and SPC
