Role Description The Part Time Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the library facility. This is an on-site role located in Park Ridge, IL, requiring regular physical presence to support daily operations. Day-to-day tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning restrooms, break rooms, and public areas including snow removal. The Custodian will handle trash and recycling removal, restock cleaning and restroom supplies, and assist with setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for programs and events. The role also involves performing basic maintenance tasks, reporting building or safety issues, and collaborating with library staff to ensure spaces are welcoming and accessible for patrons.
Pay and Schedule The pay for this position is $18.00/hour-16 hours per week, Thursdays 4:30pm-9:30pm, Fridays 2:00pm-6:30pm, and Sundays 10:00am-5:30pm.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities cleaning in public, educational, or community settings.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting (up to 70 pounds), bending, standing for extended periods, and operating cleaning equipment safely.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, use of cleaning chemicals, and basic building safety and maintenance practices.
- Strong reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for patrons and staff.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with diverse colleagues and community members.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior experience in a library, school, or community facility is a plus.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to organizational policies and safety guidelines.
