Head Cook

Park Orchard Elementary

8.00 hrs per day/182 days per year

(M-F) 5:30am - 2:00pm

Shift time is subject to building needs. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  2. Valid Washington State Department of Health Food Handler’s Card.
  3. Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain industrial kitchen equipment.
  4. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  5. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with district staff, students, parents and the general public using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
  6. Bilingual preferred.
  7. Demonstrated ability to perform basic math calculations; order products and supplies according to attendance and production requirements (written skills test required).
  8. Knowledge and understanding of all S.P.I. requirements for food services.
  9. Demonstrated ability to change menus based upon proportioned quantities.
  10. Ability to complete production records and maintain accurate meal counts.
  11. Ability to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  12. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and positive working relationships with fellow food service staff and other district personnel.
  13. Demonstrated punctuality and ability to maintain excellent record of attendance.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for all aspects of meal preparation including food preparation, cooking, assembly, service, and clean-up of meals in accordance with MLSD Food Service policies and procedures and in compliance with regulations concerning meal pattern requirements.
  2. Supervise all on-site assistant cooks and servers/helpers. Monitor work assignments, hours worked, and behavior.
  3. Complete appropriate government production records for all food prepared on-site.
  4. Properly record and account for all served meals, as specified in regulations for the National School Lunch Program.
  5. Maintain records of account debits and credits for students and school staff.
  6. Order and receive food deliveries from central warehouse and other food suppliers as needed.
  7. Supervise and instruct student workers assisting with the meal period.
  8. Follow proper sanitation, safety, and temperature control procedures in accordance with Washington State Health Department standards.
  9. Maintain a safe work environment and report all problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  10. Complete paperwork as required by Food Services Department. To include, but not limited to:
    • Meal and cash accounting records
    • Inventory
    • Meals per labor hour data
    • Order forms
    • Government production records
  11. Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
    Accept responsibility for assignments and outcomes.
  12. Work cooperatively with other staff; maintain positive, respectful relationships and engagements.
  13. Maintain district assigned email account; read and respond to messages regularly.
  14. Exhibit excellent attendance and punctuality.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Food Services Director.
