I. POSITION IDENTIFICATION

Work Unit: Mission Field Airport

Current Classification:

Pay Grade: Grade 12 ($22.42 - $27.62) Title: Airport Facilities & Maintenance Technician

Permanent Part-Time Non-Exempt: 0.25 FTE to 0.40 FTE – or – an average of 10-16 hours per week. Hours will likely vary seasonally with more hours required during the summer months compared to winter.

Supervising Entity: Airport Board (an Executive Board of Park County)


II. ASSIGNED DUTIES AND TASKS

Position Overview: The Airport Facilities & Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the Mission Field Airport's runways, taxiways, facilities, and equipment. Position is subject to the DOT federal drug testing requirements for a Commercial Vehicle License including a two-year clean testing history. You must have a minimum of a valid Class B CDL license to operate equipment. If necessary, Park County will facilitate driver to obtain Commercial Vehicle Driver’s License. This position involves seasonal duties with more hours required during the summer months compared to winter.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilities & Grounds Maintenance:

  • Runway and Taxiway Maintenance:
  • Roll and mow sod runways and taxiways (usually once or twice a year).
  • Winter snow plowing of runways, parking ramps, and taxiways.
  • General Groundskeeping:
  • Mow and trim grass near county-owned airport buildings and along the entrance road.
  • Maintain the integrity of the perimeter fencing and perform minor repairs.
  • Lighting and Equipment Maintenance:
  • Maintain runway and facilities lighting. Check airport lights and maintain the beacon.
  • Service airport equipment, including minor maintenance such as greasing joints, adding oil, and checking fluid levels.
  • Building Maintenance:
  • General terminal maintenance including furnace maintenance, painting, and collection of fire extinguishers for maintenance.
  • Security and Monitoring:
  • Monitor airport conditions and report any issues to the Airport Board.
  • Perform seasonal opening and close-down procedures for airport buildings and grounds.

Equipment and Inventory Management:

  • Inventory and Maintenance Scheduling:
  • Develop and maintain an equipment inventory list and maintenance schedule on a regular and ongoing basis.
  • Keep maintenance workshop and tools clean and organized for efficient use.
  • Purchase Supplies:
  • Purchase supplies for upkeep and maintenance within budget limits. Seek approval for expenditures exceeding $200.
  • Snow Removal:
  • Use company vehicles and equipment for snow removal and other facility operations.

Administrative Functions:

  • Reports and Meetings:
  • Complete reports on maintenance activities and equipment status.
  • Attend and report monthly at Airport Board meetings.
  • Coordinate Contracted Services:
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for major needs as needed.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Airport Board.

III. KNOWLEDGE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • Maintenance Skills: General maintenance skills and knowledge are required for maintaining airport equipment and facilities. This may include plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, grounds keeping, snow removal, carpentry, custodial work and winterizing processes.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to monitor and maintain the condition of runways, taxiways, and airport facilities. Understanding of the importance of security for asset protection.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal communication skills for interacting with the public, vendors, county personnel, and the Airport Board.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently, especially during peak seasons. Ability to be punctual.
  • Independence: High level of independent responsibility in performing job duties and tasks.
  • Team Coordination: Ability to work with contracted services and coordinate maintenance activities with the Airport Board.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

The required knowledge, skills and abilities regularly obtained through a High School Diploma, HiSET or GED and two to four years of related work experience in facilities and equipment maintenance. Experience with security and safety protocols is preferred. Experience operating a computer, cell phone, snow plow, and tractor are helpful.

Other Skills, Abilities & Licenses:

Valid Montana Driver’s license.


IV. ACCOUNTABILITY

This position exercises judgement regarding the safety and maintenance of airport facilities and equipment. The work requires the application of safety rules, regulations, and policies to ensure proper procedures are followed. The Airport Board makes final approval of work product. Actions and services provided have a direct impact on the financial integrity of the County as a whole.

V. INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION

This position exercises a high level of independent responsibility in performing job duties and tasks. The person in this position utilizes their expertise and provides general guidance in order to assist the Airport Board with developing work objectives, however, all work tasks are ultimately assigned and supervised by the Airport Board.


VI. PERSONAL CONTACTS

This position involves regular contact with the Airport Board, other county personnel, elected officials, department heads, vendors, and members of the public to exchange information, provide guidance, and coordinate activities. The person in this position interprets, clarifies, or explains maintenance and safety information to be responsive to questions and inquiries.

The work environment involves physical demands associated with maintenance tasks and office work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, climb and/or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms and walk on uneven ground. The employee is regularly required to stand or walk. The position requires working in various weather conditions and exposure to loud noise, electrical shock, and other hazards.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The position requires the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
