Development Services - Inspector I-II (Plans Examiner/Code Compliance)
General Description: The Inspector I-II shall be qualified and capable of performing inspections and other related duties to ensure compliance with current county codes and regulations. Under the direct supervision, of the Operations Director or designee.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The following requirements are necessary to reasonably ensure Park County that the individual selected for this position will be able to perform the essential functions and tasks of the position:
Responsibility for Resources: This position requires the handling of fund paid for permits and contractor licenses. Material and equipment used includes but is not limited to: calculator, County vehicle, telephone, computer, fax machine, copier. Position requires discretion with regard to confidential information.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment: The majority of the time is spent in the field doing inspections, traveling improved and unimproved roads. This position may require the individual to occasionally change a flat tire, tree a vehicle from mud or snow, walk into a job site and at the job site be able to climb stairs, crawl under floors, walk on a roof and use ladders. Office work is done in a noisy, busy environment with a great deal of time spent on the telephone. This position requires frequent exposure to cold, heights, noise, driving, standing, sitting, walking, bending, working with others and repetitive movements.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Responsibility For Property, Materials, Money, And Confidential Information
This position is responsible for the equipment used in the performance of the job including telephone, computer, fax, printer, digital camera, copier, and calculator. This position receives/accounts for permit fees and is also responsible for inventory of department office supplies. Confidentiality of information is subject to the Colorado Open Records Act.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit; to use hands and fingers and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand. Occasionally, the employee might be required to lift and/or move up to 30lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This position may be subject to interruptions, multiple phone calls and inquiries. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The following requirements are necessary to reasonably ensure Park County that the individual selected for this position will be able to perform the essential functions and tasks of the position:
- Inspect buildings during construction to ensure compliance with the building code, other applicable requirements and approved plans and specifications.
- Investigate complaints and make inspections of existing buildings to determine if hazardous or unsafe conditions exist relating to structures and their use.
- Inspect new and existing on-site wastewater systems.
- Inspect new and existing driveways.
- Assist and advise the general public in matters relating to construction and code requirements.
- Process permit applications.
- Review plans and specifications for construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and other applicable regulations.
- Inspect complaints regarding nuisances, land use, and ordinance(s) violations.
- Prepare written reports, issue notices to correct code violations, issue “stop work” notices, testify in court regarding violations.
- Assist and advise owners, contractors, designers, architects and engineers on code and design requirements for any construction project.
- Assist other inspectors on difficult or unusual code requirements for any construction project.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports of plan checking procedures.
- Prepare written reports, documentation and correspondences.
- Obtain and track information in the county’s permit data base, which may be accessed from the office or remotely.
- Support team members and the over-all goals of Development Services.
- May be required to respond to emergency situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The posting of property for variance and conditional use requests.
- Investigation and follow-up of complaints regarding nuisances and land use violations.
- Knowledge of materials and methods of construction.
- Knowledge of the codes and legal application thereof.
- Ability to read and objectively interpret code requirements in a knowledgeable manner, and to tactfully and effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with the general public while maintaining effective relationships.

- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to maintain good records and prepare written reports.
- Physically capable of safely moving about on construction work sites.
- Skill in the safe and efficient operation of a motor vehicle.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Colorado driver’s license
- Must pass background check
- Two to three years of experience in a trade or profession directly associated with construction practices (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical). Inspection experience or related technical education may substitute.
- IBC Building Inspector Certification within one year of employment.
