JOB SUMMARY  

 

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) Program at Park Center builds community in east Nashville with adults diagnosed with mental Illnesses. All PSR staff share in assisting members to live vocationally productive and socially satisfying lives. The program participants are perceived as “members” rather than “clients” or “patients”, and they work to maintain an informal setting to reduce the psychological distance between staff and members. Staff encourage members to assume productive roles both within the psychosocial clubhouse facility, and in the broader community. Coordinators provide members support through working to maintain a flexible, varied program of vocational, educational, and recreational activities. They are actively involved with the development of supported employment pathways and placements in the community and actively involved with their sustainability. 

 

The Culinary Recovery Coordinator will ensure that lunch is prepared and served each day to 75 /- members and that the kitchen is kept to health code standards. The CRC will train members of the program in culinary skills through side-by-side training and group instruction. Culinary Recovery Coordinator teaches members of Park Center’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation program how to plan menu’s, place orders for the following weeks meals, food storage and proper food handling procedures as well as kitchen cleanliness that will be kept to health department standards and beyond. This position works with members who have been diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness, and/or have been diagnosed with a co-occurring diagnosis.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Oversees all Culinary Services at the PCS Location
    1. Leads members in preparing a daily lunch for the members/staff of the PCS program.
    2.  Ensures kitchen is kept to Health Department Inspection standards as it relates to cleanliness and food storage, food   handling procedures.
    3. Oversees all special lunches including board luncheons, employment luncheons/dinners, holiday meals and   other special events.
    4. Orders all food weekly and any equipment needed for the program, staying within budgetary guidelines. 
  1. Work with clients (“members”) to complete vocational activities. 
    1. Teaches members how to prepare and serve lunch, and cleaning up after lunch, training them in skills they may need to work in the culinary field in the community, or skills they can use in living independently.
    2. Provides special groups/classes in culinary topics, such as baking, nutrition, preparing meals, etc.
    3. Finds creative ways to engage members in tasks related to meal prep, cleanliness tasks, inventory tasks and dining room service.
    4. Work in close collaboration with staff team and members to meet goals, promote a positive work environment, and advance the quality of services provided to members of the program.
    5. Actively engage members, work with and alongside members in the work-ordered day, to identify needs in the unit and the program.
    6. Assist members in planning out a full day’s worth of work and ensure those needs are met.
    7. Plan activities and perform tasks associated with the program units.
    8. Complete work if members are unwilling to assist.
    9. Identify and encourage the skills, talents, and creative ideas and efforts of each member each day.
    10. Serve as an advisor, advocate, and resource for members. Support members’ goals to find meaningful work outside the program through IPS and supported employment.
    11. Participate in outreach activities aimed at engaging members in coming to the program.
  2. Values cultural competence and diversity 
    1. Collaborates with staff, members, and the community to gain the perspectives of others having diverse opinions, abilities, values, beliefs, perspectives, and ethnic or cultural backgrounds. 
    2. Takes deliberate steps to increase own cultural competency by attending trainings, events, discussions, workshops, etc.
  3. Actively engages members in designing and implementing a plan for their recovery.
    1. Develops and leads recovery-based activities and psychoeducational groups.
    2. Maintains a caseload meeting with assigned members, assisting them in identifying recovery goals, and objectives to meet their set goals. 
    3. Writes group notes daily and weekly progress notes for assigned caseload. 
    4. Records any incidents in accordance with policies and procedures. 
    5. Engages and trains members in unit activities including activities of daily living (ADLs) and job readiness skills in work units (Culinary, Environmental, Hospitality, Media and Communications) 
    6. Facilitates 1:1 training and small groups to teach and demonstrate tasks in work units. 
    7. Provides encouragement and feedback to members in a strengths-based approach. 
    8. Ensures that all information in the member record is signed as required, of high quality, and clearly understood by members, other staff, and monitoring sources.     
    9. Communicates thoroughly with the rest of the team regarding members’ strengths and opportunities for growth. Participates as a member of the team discussing members progress towards set recovery goals.    
  4. Other duties
    1. Learns agency policies and follows them accurately.
    2. Attends all necessary staff meetings and trainings.
    3. Participates in member activities as required.
    4. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in social work, sociology, or another related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in a mental health or social service setting. Lived experience of being hospitalized psychiatrically or receiving mental health services preferred. 
  • Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork in the delivery of services.

 WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in an office setting with limited remote work options. Attends community outings with members. This position requires evening, weekend, and holiday work.
  • Work will also take place in an industrial kitchen, where you'll be exposed to heat, noise, and occasional humidity. Safety gear such as gloves, protective eyewear, or aprons may be necessary depending on the task.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The position requires frequent physical activity including standing, walking, bending, and kneeling. You may be required to lift or move heavy objects up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity is necessary for certain tasks, such as food preparation in the kitchen. Part of the job may be performed in an outdoor setting where exposure to various weather conditions should be expected. This can include tasks such as landscaping or maintenance duties.

SCHEDULE 

This position is a Monday-Friday full time position of 37.5 hours weekly. 

 There are three (3) available schedules to work: (based on program need) 

  • 7:30 am-3:30 pm
  • 8:00 am-4:00 pm
  • 8:30 am-4:30 pm

 WORK LOCATION

The PSR Day Program is located out of our 948 Woodland Street location in Nashville, TN.
