Job Title: Physical Education Teacher

Reports To: Head of School

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full-time, 10-month contract

POSITION SUMMARY

Park Academy seeks an experienced and student-centered Physical Education teacher to lead PE classes for all grade levels in a small, independent school setting serving students with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and knowledge in designing and teaching instructional activities that develop developmentally appropriate skills, fitness, and dispositions across a range of ability levels. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching students with learning differences, including ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and other language-based learning differences.

This is a full-time, 5-day-a-week position and may include other supervisory duties or teaching assignments consistent with the candidate's skills and areas of interest, including elective classes, after-school activities, or other supervisory duties.

Park Academy features small class sizes, strong administrative support, and a school-wide commitment to intentional instruction informed by the Science of Reading. The ideal candidate brings both content expertise and a strengths-based perspective about how students with learning differences access and engage with learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Qualifications

  • Must possess a current Oregon Teaching License. Out-of-state licensure considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or content-related field from an accredited four-year institution
  • Master’s degree in Teaching preferred
  • Special Education or adaptive PE experience preferred
  • Experience using positive behavior supports
  • Understanding of dyslexia, dyscalculia, executive function, working memory, and processing speed, and their impacts on learning

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach PE classes and occasional elective classes for grades 3-8
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate instructional activities and lessons that lead to mastery of skills and standards.
  • Use multisensory approaches to appeal to a variety of learning needs
  • Collaborate frequently with staff, families, and administrative team to deliver personalized, differentiated program for students
  • Participate in the observation, evaluation, and problem-solving process for students who may need additional support

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend a variety of meetings, including staff meetings, professional learning communities, and professional development opportunities
  • Attend occasional off-hour events, including back-to-school nights, parent-teacher conferences, and school events
  • Maintain educational best practices, including appropriate lesson planning, student progress monitoring, family and peer communication, and report writing
  • Support a positive school culture
  • Support and implement school policy as related to both faculty and students in and out of the classroom
  • Participate in a reflective, individualized professional development program
  • Supervise breaks, lunches, and passing times as assigned
  • Collects, records, and maintains accurate student records
  • Maintains open and consistent communication with families about student progress
  • Stipend opportunities are available, such as after-school class facilitation, summer camp teaching, and special project management.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
