What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athlete Ambassador position at Parity?
Athlete Ambassador
Job Description
Parity powered by Evolution of Sports, Inc. (EOS)
At Parity, our mission is closing the enormous pay gap between women and men in sports sponsorships. Parity is a community exclusively for pro women athletes which works to connect our athletes with brands seeking to reach new audiences and deliver business results through social media influencer campaigns, NFTs and testimonials.
Given the sports sponsorship market is estimated to be more than $65 billion annually, with less than 1% going to women athletes, this is a huge opportunity - both for women athletes, as well as brands seeking to reach new, underserved audiences. We partner with a range of companies, from Fortune 500 brands to tech-focused start-ups, matching them with our community of more than 750 women athletes to achieve their sales and marketing objectives.
Who We Are
Parity is made up of former Wall Street executives, Olympic athletes and sports fanatics who understand that the hard work and dedication required to become an elite athlete produces many of the traits needed to succeed in business. What started as a side hustle evolved into the formation of EOS in 2016, and launched our first product, Parity, in 2020. We know what it’s like to be the underdog so it’s important to us that we build a company where everyone can thrive.
We’re a group of intelligent, hard-working, ethical, and sports-obsessed individuals — and we’re looking for creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and extra-milers to join us. We believe through grit and inspiration that anything can be achieved. We’ve successfully led teams at institutions like the Players’ Tribune, Goldman Sachs, General Assembly, Pendo, and major philanthropic initiatives that have helped women, LGBTQ individuals, and other underrepresented groups thrive in the workplace.
While we enjoyed success prior to Parity, we intend to be just as successful in this newest chapter of our careers—and the next chapter of yours. We can’t wait to meet you.
Skills:
- Prospecting, i.e., finding potential clients to partner with Parity
- Outbound prospecting is expected and required to be successful. We have tools that help us, but you’re responsible for building your pipeline, managing your cadence and reaching out to potential customers.
- Part of prospecting is taking the initiative to reach out - time kills all deals, so we are proactive. It pays to be in action!
- We hear “no” a lot in prospecting. It’s important to be able to keep going and not give up. The best prospectors learn from what’s not working, try different things and find a way to “yes!”
- A solid group of companies you’ve potentially worked with before or have a connection to would be a big help to get you started with friendly conversations.
- You should be able to research and build a list of companies that would be great partners for Parity that you’d like to target.
- Presenting - delivering a pitch, and following a sales process to close clients:
- Be able to run a discovery call, asking questions that will help to customize a proposal you will deliver to the client.
- Have great interpersonal skills, and be able to build rapport with prospects and customers.
- We have a sales process at Parity that we will teach you and will make it your own with practice. (You may even get to practice during the interview process!)
- Maintaining organization- being able to keep track of tasks and duties, prioritize and execute on them
- Use an organizational structure (like a work tracking system) to track what you’ve learned and be able to find it easily.
- Experience with HubSpot, specifically, other CRM broadly, is helpful.
- Your organizational skill will be helpful as well to the rest of your team and to the people you interact with. We expect you to be a good team player by handling your own responsibilities well. We’re a small team, so there are many places where we will be working with others to get things done.
- Social media savvy and presence
- Your LinkedIn should be up to date (we will help you build it if it isn’t).
- Understanding the ins and outs of social media posting and marketing is a huge plus.
Impact: The impact you will have with this role:
- There are a few major ways a rockstar AA will have impact:
- By closing revenue through consistent effort, and exceeding your quota on a regular basis and/or
- Improving our organization, whether that’s sales motion, product, collateral, delivery - best idea wins
- We aim to change the game for women in sports.
- Some research says pro women athletes are paid 0.4% of overall sports sponsorship dollars. That means women make 40 cents for every 100 DOLLARS that men do.
- Every brand partnership you secure as a Parity account executive helps close this gap for pro women athletes.
- Revenue is the most important part of any organization, and especially true in start-ups. The deals you close directly have an impact on Parity’s growth.
Success: This is what success looks like in your first six months:
- You can uncover a new prospect, take them through the first discovery meeting, all the way to close. You’ll have learned the Parity offering inside out and be able to work with a variety of clients.
- You’ve presented both a win and a loss to the team and shared what you learned along the way.
- Your pipeline is 2-3x your quota
Value: These are the things we value as an organization:
- Caring about the mission: the mission is what drives us. Everything we do, we think of our True North - “Does this put money in the hands of women athletes?” If the answer is yes, there’s a good chance we’ll do it.
- Integrity:
- Do what you say you’re going to do. Honor your word.
- We are human, and we make mistakes. Mistakes are ok and expected when you’re just starting or moving quickly. We are looking for people who will own those mistakes, be responsible for them, and move forward having learned from them.
- Teamwork:
- The sales team works closely with the athlete execution team to deliver results for our brand partners. Since we’re a small company, every person is crucial to our operating at the highest levels. We’re looking for people who are authentic, and who understand we’re all working together to achieve our mission.
- Action
- Have a bias toward action. We are looking for people who will jump in and try new things.
- Even though you’re training, you need to be able to respond to prospects and customers within one business day. You need to be able to check your email at least one time daily and expect to spend an hour or two every day working.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment
- We are a startup. Things are changing. You’ve got to be able to manage multiple tasks and processes simultaneously.
- Adaptability to a technical set of tools will help you to be able to manage it all, so it’s necessary to be open to learning sales tools.
Benefits and Compensation
- There are two components to compensation:
- $40/hour for all Parity work, with an expectation that you are working a minimum of 10 hours per week. Expected full year compensation for this portion is approximately $19,200
- Sales commission paid on all business you close. Assuming you hit your quota, the on-target commission is expected to be $21,150 per annum
- Hourly wages and commissions are uncapped.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate your training and competition schedule.
- Ability to work from anywhere (as long as you are based in the US, authorized to work in the US, and work U.S. hours)
Process
- We will share some interview questions ahead of time, and you will speak with Cheryl Lala, our Director of Coaching and Training, and BJ Miller, our VP of Sales, and other members of the team.
- After the first round of interviews, we will narrow down the list of candidates and share a small project which should take 2-3 hours to prepare for and 20-30 minutes to deliver. This will include a presentation component since presentation ability is a core skill in this role.
- We will extend offers after evaluating these project submissions, with the goal start date of the beginning of April.
