Program Specialist III (Recreation)

Program Specialist I – Labor Grade 115 / Pay Range: $24.34 - $34.31

Program Specialist II – Labor Grade 116 / Pay Range: $25.55 - $36.03

Program Specialist III – Labor Grade 117 / Pay Range: $26.84 - $37.83

*This position is a developmental position and may be filled at level I (115), II (116), or III (117)

SUMMARY

The Program Specialist I, II or III, works under the direction of the Assistant Director, Recreation. This position is a part time position and requires a responsible individual who has some independence to make important decisions related to departmental activities and programming. Specific job positions may have specific duties that still fall in the general description. Program Specialist I and II positions are designed to train and develop the incumbent in preparation for career advancement to the full performance level, Program Specialist III. Employees selected at the developmental levels have non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance level, Program Specialist III.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Manages some functions of the recreation software system, assists the recreation administrative services division in completing program and event information in the system
  • Responsible for designing and implementing special events and programs such as camps
  • Monitors department schedules and works with directors to accomplish department goals in established time frames
  • Works closely with director level positions to improve department functions and efficiency
  • Typically works closely with part time personnel, instructors, and volunteers for program delivery, evaluation, and participant satisfaction
  • Any other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Full Performance Level Minimum Qualification Requirements – Labor Grade 117

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the recreation management or sports management field is fully qualifying for the 117 level, or
  • Combined Secondary Education and Experience: (4) years combined progressively higher-level education (post high school) leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree and directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 117 level, or
  • Experience: (4) years of directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 117 level

Developmental Level Minimum Qualification Requirements – Labor Grade 116

  • Education and Experience: An associate degree from an accredited two-year college or university in the recreation management or sports management field and (1) year of directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 116 level, or
  • Combined Secondary Education and Experience: (3) years combined progressively higher-level education (post high school) leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree and directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 116 level, or
  • Experience: (3) years of directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 116 level

Developmental Level Minimum Qualification Requirements – Labor Grade 115

  • Education: An associate degree from an accredited two-year college or university in the recreation management or sports management field is fully qualifying for the 115 level, or
  • Combined Secondary Education and Experience: (2) years combined progressively higher-level education (post high school) leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree and related experience fully qualifying for the 115 level, or
  • Experience: (2) years of directly related experience is fully qualifying for the 115 level

*Official transcripts are required upon appointment if utilized to meet qualification requirements.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

· The incumbent is subject to pre-employment physical and drug screens with random drug testing thereafter.

· The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.
