What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Paris Board of Public Utilities?
Purpose of Position
To perform accurate accounting, reporting, and analysis of all utility plant assets, construction work in progress and capital projects. Ensures compliance with all governmental, national, regional and TVA requirements; serving as a leader within the accounting department in knowledge of accounting, budgeting, depreciation and all accounting areas for the utility.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Assist with Annual Audit process
- Assist Utility Accountants to identify and solve problems
- Supports, implements, and ensures compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Maintain and reconcile all utility plant accounts in accordance with FERC Uniform System of Accounts and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of fixed assets, including additions, retirements, transfers, and adjustments.
- Prepare and maintain detailed asset records, ensuring accuracy of location, cost, useful life, and depreciation schedules.
- Track capital project budgets, expenditures, variances, and forecasts; provide monthly and quarterly reporting to leadership.
- Prepare cost allocation models and support rate studies, depreciation studies, and financial audits.
- Maintain strong internal controls over plant accounting processes, documentation, and approvals
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
- Perform any other duties as assigned
Job Related Qualifications
Education - Bachelor's Degree in business related field, Finance/Accounting preferred.
Experience - 5-7 years of financial work experience, industry-specific experience preferred
