The Scientist III – Open Access Instrumentation Support is a laboratory-based role that maintains and operates open access liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) instrumentation, maintains nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instrumentation, and performs other tasks as assigned by the client.
Responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 3-5 years of experience or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 1-2 years of experience

Description
The Scientist III – Open Access Instrumentation Support is a laboratory-based role that maintains and operates open access liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) instrumentation, maintains nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instrumentation, and performs other tasks as assigned by the client.
Responsibilities
- Checks instrument performance daily, and performs routine upkeep of open access LC-MS instruments
- Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS instrumentation and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs
- Submits and coordinates repair tickets for more complex issues
- Coordinates cryogen orders, and performs weekly liquid nitrogen fills for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments
- Performs daily sample clean up on the open access NMR systems
- Cleans electrospray ionization (ESI) process source and runs standards monthly
- Assists with preparation of samples and set up of data acquisition for analysis by liquid chromatography (LC), by LC-MS, and Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy (CD)
- Documents LC-MS performance and uptime
- Assists with purity analysis of investigational compounds by LC
- Maintains accurate documentation and records

Required Skills And Experience
- Experience in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and hands-on knowledge in LC-MS are required with an interest in expanding knowledge/background in LC-MS method development and optimization, data analysis, and sample preparation techniques
- Experience with preparation of mobile phases for LC-MS instruments
- Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and oral/written communications skills as the environment is fast-paced and results-oriented
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills
