A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) supports elderly, disabled, or chronically ill clients with daily activities (ADLs) to help them maintain independence at home or in residential facilities. Key duties include assisting with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, medication reminders, meal preparation, and light housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Personal Care: Assisting with grooming, bathing, dressing, and toileting.
- Mobility & Ambulation: Helping clients move around, transfer from bed/wheelchair, and perform prescribed exercises.
- Household Duties: Preparing meals, light cleaning, doing laundry, and changing linens.
- Health Maintenance: Monitoring and reporting changes in health condition to supervisors, assisting with medication self-administration, and tracking vitals if permitted.
- Companionship: Providing emotional support and engaging in social activities.
- Transportation: Driving clients to appointments or running errands.
