What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor position at Parallax?
ABOUT PARALLAX
Parallax is building something that doesn't exist yet: a modern communications engine that treats
persuasion like infrastructure. We are a high-velocity content operation backed by committed investors,
leading advocacy organizations, and a passionate team that has run some of the largest political media
operations in history. We produce content at campaign scale — hundreds of videos, millions of
impressions, rapid-response storytelling across every platform. We do this in service of fixing American
democracy through the actionable lever of election reform.
We are focused on solving the Primary Problem. Closed party primaries disenfranchise millions of voters
and disincentivize our leaders from solving problems. Open, all-candidate primaries increase
participation, improve representation, and dampen polarization. We are here to win open primaries on
the state level in order to enfranchise millions of voters and liberate dozens of members of Congress.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
This is an outcomes-based contractor engagement. Success is measured by what gets shipped, not hours
logged:
- Volume of finished cuts. 5–10 polished, publish-ready cuts per week across short-form (TikTok, Reels, Shorts), produced from raw footage and creative briefs.
- Turnaround speed. Rough assemblies delivered within hours of receiving footage; polished short-form cuts within 24 hours.
- Platform-correct outputs. Every deliverable shipped to spec for its destination platform — correct aspect ratio, hook structure, pacing, captions, text overlays, and sound design.
- AI-accelerated pipeline. Editing output that demonstrably leverages AI tools (auto-transcription, rough-cut generation, smart reframing, caption automation) to compress turnaround relative to traditional workflows.
- Performance-responsive iteration. Recuts and format adjustments delivered in response to analytics shared by the project lead, with clear evidence of learning applied to subsequent cuts.
- Organized handoffs. Clean project files, labeled exports, and archived source media delivered alongside every cut so the team can locate, repurpose, and audit any asset.
QUALIFICATIONS
You've spent 2–8 years editing video content and you've already integrated AI into your workflow because you realized it lets you do more of the creative work you actually care about.
- You ship fast. Your track record shows a polished 60-second cut in under 2 hours and a rough assembly in 30 minutes.
- You're AI-native. You've built AI into your editing practice — Descript, Runway, CapCut's auto-edit, custom GPT-driven processes — and you keep testing new tools.
- You have taste. Clean cuts, intentional pacing, type that looks designed.
- You're platform-literate. You understand retention curves, hook theory, and why the first 3 seconds determine everything. You edit for the scroll, not the timeline.
- Your first cuts land close to final. Clear direction lands cleanly into deliverables without extensive rework cycles.
- You care about the mission. You want your speed and skill applied to something with stakes beyond brand content.
WHY THIS GIG
- Volume with meaning. Your work will reach millions of people on the most important civic issue in America. High output, high impact.
- Cutting-edge workflow. We don't just tolerate AI tools — we expect them. An environment that rewards speed and innovation.
- Creative reps. 5–10 cuts a week means you're constantly sharpening. Every edit is a chance to experiment with pacing, format, and style.
- It's still early. You'll help define the editorial language of the operation — not inherit someone else's template.
