Role Overview:
We are looking for an ambitious Data Engineer to join this passionate product design and development team. The ideal candidate will be excited to wear multiple hats including data, cloud, and backend engineering. We are looking for someone who wants to make an impact and who is driven by results. We are a team of do-ers!
In addition to the core technology team, you will work closely with our operational teams to monitor and support the live platform and daily data processing tasks. This position will be a bridge between the US-based teams and the offshore development teams. We are looking for someone who enjoys problem solving with a forward-looking mindset and thrives in ambiguity.
Job Responsibilities: (may include and are not limited to)
- Develop and maintain the data architecture vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technology roadmaps.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS data services
- Integrate with a wide array of tools and services via API.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and provide ongoing support for a diverse range of services and applications across our ecosystem.
- Develop, modify, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to support various applications.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies to enhance existing functionality
- Uphold industry best practices for data architecture, data governance, and ETL processes
- Requirements and technical documentation
- Participate in code reviews
- Work with stakeholders globally, including the Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams, to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
- Integrate well with the operations teams to understand their workflow and help form an efficient support model.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2-4 years of increasing responsibility in data and backend engineering roles in startup environments
- Proven experience building infrastructure in AWS using Infrastructure as Code (CDK preferred; Terraform and CloudFormation also valued)
- Strong Python programming skills, with experience using PySpark
- Deep understanding of the following AWS services: Lambda; Glue; S3; EventBridge; SQS; RDS
- Comfortable working with both REST and GraphQL APIs
- An in-depth understanding of large-scale data sets, including both structured and unstructured data
- Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker
- Experience with backend frameworks such as Django is a plus
- Experience with GitHub Actions is a plus
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning is a plus

Compensation Range:
- $90,000 – $120,000
- The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, industry experience, certifications, and other factors.
