Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with legal research using platforms such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to gather relevant case law, statutes, and legal precedents across diverse practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, securities law, tribal law, patent law, and workers' compensation law.
- Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, discovery requests, affidavits, and correspondence with precision and attention to detail.
- Manage legal case files and document management systems like iManage and PCLaw to ensure accurate filing, indexing, and retrieval of case materials.
- Conduct thorough document review and data entry for ongoing litigation or transactional matters while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Support attorneys in client interviews by organizing case information, drafting summaries, and preparing interview questions to facilitate effective communication.
- Assist with administrative tasks including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, coordinating court filings, and handling phone inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
- Conduct legal research utilizing Westlaw or LexisNexis on topics such as landlord-tenant law, immigration law, personal injury law, UCC law (Uniform Commercial Code), securities law, or tribal regulations to support case development.
- Support project management efforts by tracking deadlines, preparing status reports, and coordinating team activities for complex litigation or compliance projects.
- Proofread legal documents for accuracy in spelling, grammar, formatting, and citations; transcribe dictations or recorded notes as needed.
- Maintain organized records of all case-related materials in accordance with firm policies and legal standards.
Skills
- Proven experience as a paralegal or legal assistant within a law office environment; familiarity with multiple practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, securities law, patent law, tribal law & regulations, workers' compensation law, personal injury law, landlord-tenant law, immigration law or litigation support is highly desirable.
- Strong research skills utilizing Westlaw or LexisNexis to locate pertinent legal information efficiently.
- Proficiency in legal case management software such as iManage or PCLaw; experience with document review systems is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting clear legal documents and correspondence; keen proofreading abilities to ensure error-free work.
- Effective interviewing techniques to gather relevant client information accurately.
- Familiarity with document management systems for efficient filing and retrieval of case materials.
- Strong clerical experience including data entry, filing systems management, phone etiquette, and administrative support functions.
- Ability to perform detailed legal research on diverse topics such as estate planning strategies or environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of contracts drafting and review processes; experience supporting litigation teams is advantageous.
