What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipboard Systems Engineer position at Paragon Force, Inc.?
Paragon Force is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Shipboard Systems Engineer to provide advanced systems engineering and DoD acquisition support for the integration of shipboard energy storage solutions. This position focuses on the implementation of embedded battery systems and containment enclosures for military maritime platforms, including the analysis, design, and prototyping of mitigation strategies for high-risk energy storage applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct engineering analysis and characterization of large-scale battery hazards, including Maximum Credible Event (MCE) and Worst Case Event (WCE) scenarios.
- Develop and assess failure modes and effects, fire mitigation and suppression concepts, and battery-agnostic containment solutions.
- Support requirements development for electrical, mechanical, control, and mitigation systems, ensuring compatibility with shipboard environments.
- Assist in engineering investigations related to power and energy systems, storage enclosures, and related support infrastructure.
- Apply knowledge of non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques for lithium-ion and silver-zinc battery chemistries.
- Review technical studies, evaluations, assessments, and documentation prepared for the Government.
- Provide support for DoD acquisition planning, documentation, and lifecycle management.
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with military or DoD programs
- Experience supporting DoD acquisition and systems engineering activities
- Familiarity with DoD shipboard system requirements
- Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or similar MBSE tools
- Understanding of control systems design for military or commercial applications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (interim clearance acceptable; sponsorship available)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience modeling battery failure simulations to predict failure modes, energy release, and effectiveness of mitigation strategies
- Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies
- Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 (System Safety)
- Experience developing requirements for energy or power systems
- Understanding of electrical and power distribution systems in relation to battery technologies
