SUMMARY:

The Plant Manager will oversee all daily operations of the plant from production, maintenance, warehousing, and quality to ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They develop processes that will maximize ownership, safety, quality, and productivity while reducing cost and maintaining a positive and inclusive culture for employees. They have direct oversight of Production and indirect oversight of Maintenance, HR, Sanitation, Quality, Shipping/Receiving, and the Warehousing teams assigned to support the facility. The Plant Manager will partner with Safety, Purchasing, Finance, Scheduling, Engineering, R&D and other departments as necessary to ensure the entire facility is running to the highest standard in quality, safety, efficiency and costs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures site compliance with all safety, health and environmental laws, codes and standards
  • Working with Safety Manager, develops and implements programs, processes and procedures to ensure the safety and health of all associates working at the site
  • Ensures food safety regulatory requirements are met with direction from the Quality Assurance Department
  • Work with Quality Assurance Department to ensure compliance to GFSI approved audit schemes and customer quality standards
  • Partner with HR to retain and develop employees, build succession plans and create bench strength with a goal to create a stabilized workforce with a strong long-term connection to the company.
  • Accountable for the overall quality of the plant by supporting Plant Food Safety and Quality policies and procedures
  • Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Provides leadership to the site and its personnel to drive continuous improvement; high visibility on the plant floor driving improvements and accountability
  • Responsible for plant production goals, and KPI’s
  • Foster a well-trained and motivated staff
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste and reduce overtime
  • Select and train plant supervisory team
  • Conduct performance reviews for your staff
  • Work directly with the Master Production Scheduler to ensure efficient scheduling of production lines with consideration of supply chain needs.
  • Organizes and enables quality improvement efforts at the site, aligned with business and customer priorities
  • Maintaining the back lot and warehouse to ensure cleanliness and that GMP’s and 5S standards are followed.
  • Make sure finished good product is shipped out in FIFO
  • Manage rework and finished goods on hold (WIP) to designated hold areas
  • Work with the short line railroad (PALRR) on car switches for box cars and tankers
  • Watch and track cars for demurrage charges
  • Support and execute company’s environmental policies and procedures
  • Ensures appropriate internal and external customer focus in daily activities on site
  • Assists with site capital planning and spending to both reduce business and safety risk, and improve cost and profitability
  • Ensures site maintenance is adequate and appropriate to support business reliability needs and to maximize equipment up-time
  • Monitor all plant costs, and explain adjustments and variances
  • Completes other job-related tasks as assigned
  • Work directly with department Managers daily to resolve any operation, quality, and maintenance issues
  • Responsible for reporting all Non-conforming material and disposition recommendations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ten years of progressive plant managerial experience in a food manufacturing environment and/or equivalent practical plant management experience.
  • B.S. or B.A. preferred. In lieu of degree, 10 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others orally or in writing.
  • Must be able to inspire and motivate the manufacturing team through leadership and implementation of effective management tools.
  • Must possess excellent team management.
  • Ability to connect with employees and anticipate and resolve people-related concerns or issues.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, indirect management structure.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while following company procedures.
  • Ability to organize and direct oneself and effectively supervise others.
  • Ability to accurately audit and control all necessary paperwork.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Position is required to work some irregular hours to provide oversite to all shifts. Expectation is to spend time amongst all shifts.
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, handling, reaching climbing, crawling, squatting, kneeling and bending
  • Occasional pushing/pulling and lifting, which can be accommodated
  • This role may require longer hours or weekends on occasion
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $145,000 - $178,000
