Role Description: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Steel Detailer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating precise three-dimensional models, shop drawings, and erection plans for structural steel components. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Tekla Structures and AutoCAD, a strong understanding of steel fabrication and construction processes, and the ability to translate architectural and engineering blueprints into actionable fabrication data.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D Modeling & Detailing: Utilize Tekla Structures to generate accurate, fully detailed 3D models of structural steel projects.
- Drawing Generation: Produce comprehensive shop fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, erection plans, and bill of materials (BOMs) using Tekla and AutoCAD.
- Connection Detailing: Detail steel connections (bolted and welded) in compliance with project specifications, AISC standards, and local building codes.
- Document Management: Generate and export CNC files (NC/DXF), material take-offs, and shipping lists to support the fabrication shop.
- Collaboration: Coordinate closely with project managers, structural engineers, architects, and the shop fabrication team to ensure seamless project execution.
Required Technical Skills:
- Software Expertise: Proficiency in Tekla Structures (modeling and drawing generation) and AutoCAD is mandatory.
- Industry Standards: Solid understanding of AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards, OSHA regulations, and standard welding symbols/practices.
- Blueprints: Advanced ability to read and interpret complex structural and architectural design drawings.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Structural Steel Detailer in a commercial or industrial construction environment.
- Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent certification in Drafting, Civil/Structural Engineering technology, or a related field preferred.

- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying structural clashes or layout issues.
