Civil Engineer / Project Engineer
Location: Scottsdale, AZ or Grand Rapids, MI (in-person)
Paradigm Design is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer / Project Engineer to join our growing civil engineering team. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in land development, site development, and infrastructure design who is ready to take on increasing leadership responsibility, collaborate with clients, and mentor engineering staff.

The Role
As a Civil Engineer / Project Engineer, you will support and lead projects from planning and design through construction while serving as a key client contact. Depending on experience, this role may include project management responsibilities, such as managing scope, schedule, and budget, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the development of junior engineers.
Candidates with prior Project Manager experience are encouraged to apply; role scope and responsibilities will be aligned based on experience.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving and is ready to grow into broader leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support land development and site development projects from concept through construction.
- Manage or assist with project scope, budgets, schedules, and quality.
- Prepare and review civil engineering plans, reports, proposals, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
- Oversee grading, utilities, stormwater management, drainage, and roadway design.
- Provide construction administration and respond to field conditions as needed.
- Serve as a client-facing team member, maintaining clear and professional communication.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and project team members.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and project processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates eligible for licensure encouraged to apply.
- 7 years of civil engineering experience with a focus on land development or site development.
- Experience supporting or managing civil engineering projects from design through construction.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD & Civil 3D; experience with HEC-RAS preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of grading, utilities, stormwater systems, and infrastructure design.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
