Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to assist the Controller with accounting and financial reporting for a luxury residential development project. This position supports project cost tracking, accounts payable, construction draws, general ledger maintenance, and month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate has experience in real estate development or construction accounting and works effectively under the direction of the Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with processing and coding vendor invoices, contractor billings, and project-related expenditures.
- Maintain project cost schedules and assist with tracking construction costs against the approved budget.
- Assist with preparing construction draw packages, including invoices, lien waivers, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations as directed by the Controller.
- Compile monthly project cost reports and supporting financial schedules.
- Assist with month-end closing, financial reporting, and audit documentation.
- Monitor accounts payable, payment requests, retainage, and outstanding invoices.
- Maintain organized accounting records and ensure proper coding and documentation of project expenditures.
- Perform other accounting duties assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or construction.
- Understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
- Familiarity with construction costs, project budgets, and construction-in-progress accounting.
- Experience with construction draws and contractor invoices preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction ERP systems such as Sage or similar systems are a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to follow direction, collaborate with the Controller, and work effectively with project personnel and vendors.
