Essential Job Duties

• Assembles, disassembles, inspects, and transports parts, components, and products associated with the nuclear weapons stockpile between bays and/or buildings, as required, with a high degree of skill and accuracy in accordance with all written and oral instructions
• Keeps accurate records, including completion of applicable weapons processing forms and inputs data into related computer equipment as directed on work assigned
• Duties may involve the use of items such as, but not limited to certain hand tools: with more advanced knowledge of items, such as but not limited to, torque wrench, gauge blocks, gauge masters, dial indicators, force indicators, surface plates, optical comparators, micrometers, and special testing equipment
• Operates material handling/moving equipment such as manually operated lift trucks, bridge cranes and hoists in connection with assigned duties
• May inspect and perform drawing checks on special tooling
• May perform minor repairs according to written/oral instructions
• Performs assignments with a high degree of quality and efficiency exercising prescribed safety and security measures while following procedures verbatim with a high degree of accuracy
• Responsible for housekeeping and cleanliness of work area
• Updates the necessary forms and records essential for a step-by-step performance of work
• Must be able to recognize defects in materials and workmanship
• Verifies proper parts, tools, and procedures for job assigned
• Detects unauthorized operations or inspections
• Utilizes the “Two Person Control” concept when using electrical testers, various measuring devices, and performing certain types of work
• Assures proper tracking and control of nuclear and other applicable material
• Responsible for care and protection of assigned material and equipment
• May be responsible for the use of hand tools and special testing equipment to check dial indicators
• Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures
• Required to attend and/or successfully complete required training classes for the position (Reference DOE Order 426.2) as determined by Management
• Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls
• Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized
• Attends required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment
• Performs other duties as assigned depending on area of assignment
  
  

Skills And Minimum Qualifications

• Must be able to perform the duties and functions outlined above.
• Must meet initial employment requirements that include a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
• Must be able to complete all training necessary to be qualified and certified (as applicable) for weapons work.
  
  

Minimum Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
• Must provide evidence of reading, writing and math skills at a high school graduate level by:
• Successfully completing a Reading Comprehension Assessment
• Successfully completing a Mechanical Aptitude Assessment
• Must provide evidence of at least 6-months verifiable hands-on work such as mechanical, electrical, or machining type experience
• May also provide any of the following: Certificate of Technology Program Completion from an accredited college or university in a field of study requiring the use of hand tools (e.g. Automotive Technology, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Manufacturing and Machining Technology) Qualifications, work history, training, and education may be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof
  

DOE Order 426.2A Requirements

• In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
