What You'll Do
As a first level manager you will provide leadership, technical direction, and oversight to Fire Protection System Engineers, technical support personnel, and potentially subcontract employees. You will also be responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and safety awareness, establishing goals, and employee performance management. The Fire Protection Engineering manager will lead and manage activities for Engineering in a manner that enables employee engagement. This includes leading engineering resources in problem solving and issue resolution to support the mission at Pantex. Advises management of staffing needs necessary to address both forecast and emerging workload. In addition, you will be managing a dedicated group of Fire Protection Engineers who function as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on fire detection and suppression systems, other fire protection related safety class facility systems, and the Pantex Fire Protection Program. Frequent contact with external and internal customers is required.

- The position requires a working knowledge of the Facility Engineering Department roles and responsibilities along with the System Engineering Program per Department of Energy (DOE) Order 420.1
- Demonstrated ability to manage engineers and administrative personnel
- Advanced knowledge of Fire Protection principles and requirements, Facility Engineering processes and procedures; demonstrated ability to lead engineering evaluations of processes, facility and systems including Nuclear Explosive Safety Studies and nuclear weapon facility projects
- Ability to lead difficult and complex projects
- Ability to develop executable plans
- Skills for reporting on determined corrective and improvement actions
- Knowledgeable in budgeting, staffing, and financial performance
- Ability to maintain successful interactions with equivalent-level and subordinate managers concerning matters of significance to the Company

- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with at least 7 years of relevant experience
- In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science and 4 years nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection
- Application of Conduct of Engineering principles, DOE O 420.1, and Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 requirements commensurate with performing work in nuclear facilities
- Experience in a Nuclear Regulatory Commission or DOE regulated environment
- Familiarity with the applicable national consensus codes, standards, and DOE requirements/guidelines used in the technical management of building systems and infrastructure for nuclear facilities
- Demonstrated skill in effective planning, writing, organization, communication, schedule compliance, and management of technical issues
