Job Description
We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Scrap Metal Inspector to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting incoming scrap materials, identifying and properly grading different types of metal, and helping ensure customers are paid according to the correct material classification.
This is a part-time position working Monday through Wednesday, approximately 24 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming scrap metal and other recyclable materials
- Identify and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Properly grade materials such as steel, aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, insulated wire, radiators, motors, batteries, and other common scrap
- Check loads for prohibited or unacceptable materials
- Communicate material grades clearly to scale and office personnel
- Assist customers with identifying and unloading materials when necessary
- Take photos or document materials as required
- Maintain a clean and safe inspection/work area
- Follow all company safety procedures
- Perform other yard duties as needed
Qualifications
- Scrap metal, recycling, automotive, construction, welding, or similar experience is preferred but not required
- Willingness to learn different scrap grades and material classifications
- Dependable and able to consistently work the scheduled Monday–Wednesday shift
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods
- Able to lift and handle materials as required
- Good attention to detail
- Able to work safely around trucks, forklifts, heavy equipment, and scrap materials
- Must be able to work well with customers and coworkers
