What are the responsibilities and job description for the Integration Engineer (AI) position at Pandion Optimization Alliance?
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The Integration Engineer (AI) is Pandion's hands-on technical builder for AI, workflow automation, and system integrations that improve how the business operates. Working directly with business leaders and users, this role gathers requirements, designs practical solutions, and personally codes, tests, deploys, and maintains the tools it develops. This is an individual contributor role accountable for delivering reliable, adopted solutions with measurable operational results. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Pandion's Fairport, NY office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with business users to map workflows, identify bottlenecks, and translate business needs into clear, prioritized requirements.
- Design, code, test, deploy, and maintain internal applications, workflow automations, AI-enabled tools, and system integrations.
- Integrate business systems and data through APIs, databases, and files with appropriate access controls, error handling, and monitoring.
- Apply AI models and tools where they fit the problem, evaluate outputs against realistic examples, and build in human review where judgment is required.
- Drive user adoption through rollout, training, and feedback, and measure results against agreed business outcomes.
- Protect Pandion and member information by following sound security, credential, and data-handling practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Solution Development and Delivery (45%)
- Build internal applications, workflow automations, and AI-enabled tools, owning the path from prototype to production, including user interfaces where needed.
- Build and evaluate AI workflows against realistic examples, and choose simpler software or automation when that is the better fit.
- Choose tools and architecture that one person can maintain; assess build-versus-buy options and use managed services where appropriate.
- Explain technical tradeoffs in cost, speed, reliability, and flexibility to the Senior Director, Analytics and business stakeholders.
Systems Integration and Data (20%)
- Connect Salesforce, operational, finance, and other business applications through APIs, databases, and file-based integrations.
- Move and validate data between systems with appropriate logging, error handling, and recovery so workflows run reliably.
- Coordinate with system owners and external providers on permissions, credentials, data handling, and security, escalating decisions that require business approval or specialist expertise.
- Build and maintain a governed knowledge/context layer connecting the enterprise LLM to core business systems (email, document storage, CRM, filings), including data classification, access controls, and retrieval quality.
- Integrate agent output directly into the systems of record teams already use (e.g., writing status, findings, or task updates back to Salesforce or an existing tracker) rather than building standalone tools that require a separate process to adopt.
Business Analysis and Adoption (20%)
- Work alongside users to understand processes, the data behind them, and downstream effects on other systems.
- Maintain a focused delivery schedule with the Senior Director, Analytics and establish baseline measures with business owners.
- Support users through rollout, training, and feedback, and communicate progress, risks, and capacity constraints clearly.
- Measure improvements in time saved, error rates, cycle time, service quality, or member experience, and refine solutions after launch.
Quality, Support, and Documentation (15%)
- Test changes, manage releases, and monitor the performance and cost of deployed solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain version control, technical documentation, and operating instructions so solutions can be supported and handed over.
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND PREFERRED SKILLS
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on software development, business systems development, integration, or automation experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to independently write, debug, test, and deploy production code in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, with working knowledge of SQL and APIs, required.
- Experience personally building and maintaining tools, applications, or integrations used in real operations required.
- Experience integrating AI model APIs or AI tools into a working solution, with an understanding of output reliability, data privacy, latency, and cost, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with CRM (Salesforce), finance, or other enterprise systems, cloud or managed hosting, automated deployment, and low-code platforms is a plus.
- Experience as an early technical hire or on a small team with direct access to business users is a plus.
