Academic Interventionist (K–3 Reading and Math)

Reports To: Principal
Term of Employment: 10 months
Salary: Compensation based on the North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule plus applicable local supplement
Position Purpose
The Academic Interventionist provides targeted instructional support to students in kindergarten through third grade who require additional academic assistance in reading and/or mathematics. This position is responsible for implementing evidence-based Tier II and Tier III interventions, monitoring student progress, collaborating with classroom teachers, and helping ensure all students make meaningful academic growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide small-group and individual instruction for students identified as needing additional support in reading and mathematics.
- Deliver research-based Tier II and Tier III interventions aligned with school and district instructional frameworks.
- Use assessment data to identify student needs and develop intervention plans.
- Monitor student progress regularly and maintain accurate records of intervention services and student growth.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional staff, and administration to align interventions with classroom instruction.
- Assist with screening, benchmarking, and diagnostic assessments.
- Participate in problem-solving and MTSS meetings to discuss student performance and intervention effectiveness.
- Adjust instructional strategies based on student data and response to intervention.
- Support teachers in understanding intervention strategies that can be reinforced in the classroom.
- Communicate student progress with families as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Participate in professional development related to literacy, mathematics, and intervention practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

- Knowledge of MTSS and intervention practices

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
- Valid North Carolina teaching license
- Experience teaching elementary students preferred
- Training in reading and/or math intervention programs preferred
- Experience with progress monitoring tools and data analysis preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work with young children in classroom and small group settings
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the school day
- Ability to lift instructional materials and classroom supplies as needed
