Qualifications:
● Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
● Knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and conduct.
● Ability to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately (e.g., add,
subtract, multiply, divide and use percentages).
● Ability to enter, adjust, and retrieve data using a computer. Previous experience
with Word, Excel, and payroll software (Visions) preferred.
● Ability to comprehend and follow complex written and oral instructions in the
English language (understanding of insurance terminology and payroll rules).
● Ability to produce spreadsheets and financial reports from department records.
● Two years of experience in Payroll, preferably supplemented by courses in
accounting.
● Can communicate clearly with staff members and students both orally and in
writing.

● The Business Manager
Job Goal:
● To correctly process a 100 employee payroll and serve the district in other duties
assigned.
Performance Responsibilities
Responsibilities should include, but not be limited to, the following:
Prepare and distribute biweekly payroll warrants, correctly process payroll and
deductions.
POSITION DESCRIPTION PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Administer district benefit package for new and current employees (open
enrollment and employee health programs).
Organize and maintain insurance records and employee personnel files.
Provide assistance to all employees by answering questions and requests in regard
to payroll and benefit information in a timely manner.
Audit and reconcile employee benefit billing statements and process monthly
premium payments.
Tracking of district retirement groups, claims processing and self-billings of
insurance.
Verification of employment/DES requests
Manage timekeeping system verifying edits, absences and total hours, calculation
of overtime, verifying holiday pay and maintaining new hire information.
Verify accuracy of new hire information in Visions payroll personnel database,
set up payroll calendars and positions in Visions.
Review employee timesheets for accuracy against Visions payroll database.
Perform data entry of employee federal and state tax forms and direct deposit
changes.
Verify and compute eligibility of vacation pay, leave pay, and terminate benefit
package upon resignation.
Perform data entry of substitute pay.
Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll and benefit operations by
keeping information confidential.
Serve as admin for Visions software (assign rights, logins, etc.)
Fixed asset accounting
Prepare various reports - SDER, payroll withholding tax, quarterly and annual tax
returns, time and effort reports, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Evaluation:
● Performance is evaluated by the Business Manager.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
● Is supervised by the Business Manager; exercises no supervisory responsibilities.
Salary Range:
● As specified in the classified salary schedule.
