About the Role:
The Scrub Tech Certified at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in supporting surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the sterile field during operative procedures. This position ensures that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, organized, and readily available to surgeons and nurses, thereby facilitating efficient and safe surgeries. The Scrub Tech works closely with OR nursing personnel to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly to requests. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict infection control protocols, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Ultimately, the Scrub Tech Certified contributes directly to positive patient outcomes by maintaining a sterile and well-organized operating room environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent scrub tech certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a hospital operating room setting.
- Advanced certifications such as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills developed through clinical experience.
- Additional training in specialized surgical procedures or equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and equipment according to the specific procedure requirements.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sponges, and other sterile supplies in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and ensure the sterile field is not compromised throughout the surgical procedure.
- Inspect and sterilize surgical instruments before and after procedures, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs and respond quickly to changes during surgery.
- Document surgical supplies used and assist in inventory management to ensure availability of necessary materials.
- Participate in cleaning and restocking the operating room after procedures to prepare for subsequent surgeries.
