About the Role:
The Registered Nurse (RN) ICU-PRN at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within the Intensive Care Unit on an as-needed basis. This position requires the nurse to provide expert clinical assessment, monitoring, and intervention for critically ill patients, ensuring their safety and promoting optimal recovery. The RN will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to develop and implement individualized care plans. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the PRN role demands readiness to respond to fluctuating patient volumes and acuity levels. Ultimately, the RN ICU-PRN contributes to maintaining the hospital’s standards of excellence in critical care through compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Ability to work flexible hours on a PRN basis, including weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills specific to critical care nursing.
- Familiarity with ventilator management
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems commonly used in acute care settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience working in an Intensive Care Unit or equivalent critical care environment..
- Previous experience working in a community hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuously monitor vital signs and clinical status in the ICU setting.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans tailored to critically ill patients.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate interventions and escalating care when necessary.
- Document all nursing care activities accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
- Educate patients and their families regarding care plans, procedures, and post-discharge instructions to support recovery.
- Maintain strict infection control practices and comply with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with critical care best practices.

The RN ICU-PRN utilizes advanced clinical skills daily to assess and manage complex patient conditions, ensuring timely and effective interventions. This is a PRN position and the applicant selected will identify the number of hours they will commit to the department.
This position is PRN and is not budgeted for FT hours. The position is eligible for shift differential and overtime, if applicable. This position is not eligible for benefits.
