About the Role:
The Phlebotomist PRN at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a critical role in the collection of blood specimens necessary for accurate laboratory testing and diagnosis. This position requires precision and care to ensure patient comfort and safety during blood draws, while adhering to strict infection control and safety protocols. The role involves working on an as-needed basis, providing flexibility and support to the hospital’s laboratory and clinical teams during peak times or staff absences. The Phlebotomist will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate specimen collection, contributing directly to patient care outcomes. Ultimately, this position supports the hospital’s mission by delivering high-quality phlebotomy services that facilitate effective diagnosis and treatment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Current driver's license and vehicle liability insurance required.
- Demonstrated experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection in a clinical setting.
- Enters visits and test requisitions on all patient types.
Preferred Qualification
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent from a recognized certifying body.
- Previous experience working in a hospital environment.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Additional certifications related to laboratory safety or patient care.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient-facing roles.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures on patients of all ages with accuracy and professionalism.
- Performs bedside glucose (waived) testing.
- Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens to maintain chain of custody and prevent errors.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterility of equipment and work areas, following hospital and laboratory safety standards.
- Document all procedures accurately in patient records and communicate effectively with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen status.
- Adhere to all regulatory and hospital policies related to patient confidentiality, infection control, and workplace safety.

Skills:
The required skills such as venipuncture technique and specimen handling are essential for daily blood collection tasks, ensuring accuracy and patient safety. This is a {RN position. Known sift needed is Sunday night shift.
This position is not guaranteed hours since it is PRN. The position is eligible for overtime and shift differentials, when applicable.
