About the Role:
The Patient Care Tech at Palo Pinto General Hospital plays a vital role in supporting the healthcare team by providing compassionate and attentive care to patients. This position focuses on assisting patients with their daily living activities, monitoring their health status, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout their hospital stay. The Patient Care Tech acts as a critical liaison between patients and nursing staff, helping to communicate patient needs and changes in condition promptly. By performing routine clinical tasks and maintaining a clean and organized environment, this role contributes significantly to the overall patient experience and quality of care. Ultimately, the Patient Care Tech helps to create a supportive and healing environment that promotes patient well-being and recovery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to follow directions as given
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year previous experience working in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Ambulate and position patients as needed
- Monitor and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and report any abnormalities to nursing staff.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, helping to alleviate anxiety and promote comfort.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in patient rooms and common areas, including changing bed linens and sanitizing equipment.
- Support nursing staff with clinical tasks such as specimen collection, and transporting patients within the hospital.
Skills:
The Patient Care Tech utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to interact compassionately with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare team members. Clinical skills such as taking vital signs, assisting with patient hygiene, and performing basic medical procedures are essential for providing high-quality care and ensuring patient safety. Organizational skills are important for maintaining a clean and orderly environment and managing multiple patient care tasks efficiently. Problem-solving abilities help the Patient Care Tech respond appropriately to patient needs and unexpected situations. Additionally, proficiency with healthcare technology, including electronic health records, enhances documentation accuracy and supports seamless care coordination.
This position is scheduled to work days from 6:45 AM through 6:45 PM. The days worked may change per schedule.
This position is budgeted for 36 hours per week (.90 FTE) but may require additional hours based on the needs of the department. This position is eligible for overtime and shift differentials, if applicable.
