Patient Care Tech Med Surg PRN Days
About the Role:
The Patient Care Tech ( PTC) Med Surg PRN Nights plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care during day shifts in a medical-surgical unit. This position is designed to provide flexible, as-needed support to the nursing team, ensuring that patients receive attentive and compassionate care throughout the day. The PCT will assist with daily living activities, monitor patient conditions, and support the nursing staff in implementing care plans. By maintaining a safe and comfortable environment, the PCT contributes to positive patient outcomes and overall satisfaction. This role requires adaptability, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to upholding healthcare standards during day shift hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS/GED completion.
- One year PCT experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to work day shifts on an as-needed (PRN) basis.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the nursing staff promptly.
- Support nurses with medical-surgical procedures and patient care tasks as directed.
- Ensure patient rooms and equipment are clean, safe, and well-maintained to promote infection control and comfort.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
Skills:
The required skills such as patient care, vital sign monitoring, and effective communication are essential for ensuring patient safety and comfort. PCTs use their clinical knowledge daily to assist nursing personnel .and respond promptly to patient needs. Preferred skills like familiarity with EHR systems enhance documentation accuracy and streamline communication with the healthcare team. Strong interpersonal skills enable the PCT to provide emotional support and collaborate effectively with nurses and other staff. Adaptability and time management are crucial for managing the dynamic environment in a medical-surgical unit.
