Palo Alto County Health System is proud to offer meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals who want to make a positive impact in the lives of patients, families, and our community. Our volunteers bring compassion, connection, and support to a wide range of service areas across PACHS. These roles are unpaid and open to individuals who want to share their time and talents in a supportive healthcare environment.

Volunteers may assist in areas such as the Gift Shop, Hospice, Home Health, Ambulance, Clinic, and Hospital departments. Responsibilities may include greeting and assisting visitors, providing comfort measures to patients, supporting departmental staff with non-clinical tasks, restocking supplies, running small errands, or helping with special projects. Volunteers help ensure a warm, welcoming, and supportive experience for every patient and family member who enters our doors.

We also offer a specialized Volunteer Driver opportunity for individuals who want to help patients access essential medical appointments through the Public Health office. Volunteer Drivers use their personal vehicles to provide safe, reliable transportation for patients, following established guidelines and demonstrating respect, patience, and care with every ride. Volunteer Drivers may also provide light clerical support or assist with communication needs in the Public Health setting. In addition, volunteers may sit with hospice patients in their home environment to provide companionship and much-needed caregiver relief.

Across all roles, volunteers uphold PACHS values by maintaining confidentiality, practicing safety and infection-control procedures, and demonstrating a positive, team-focused attitude. Volunteers make an immeasurable difference through kindness, service, and a willingness to help when needed.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are dependable, compassionate, and committed to community service. Previous experience in a healthcare setting or public-health environment is helpful but not required. Volunteers should have strong customer-service skills, basic computer skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to a changing environment. Volunteer Drivers must have a safe driving record and the ability to interact with patients in a respectful and supportive manner. Training and orientation will be provided for all volunteer roles.
