Utility Pipe Layer

The Pipe Layer is responsible for installing underground utilities, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems, according to project plans and specifications. This position works closely with the Utility Foreman and crew to ensure proper grade, alignment, and installation of all pipe systems.

• Install water, sewer, storm drainage, and other utility systems according to plans and specifications.

• Set up trenching, shoring, and safety systems per OSHA and company guidelines.

• Establish and check line and grade using lasers, levels, and other layout tools.

• Prepare pipe bedding, lay pipe, install fittings, and assemble joints.

• Install manholes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, and related structures.

• Assist equipment operators with trenching and excavation as needed.

• Perform backfilling and compaction around installed utilities.

• Cut pipes to required lengths using specialized tools and equipment.

• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all safety procedures.

• Communicate with the foreman regarding progress, issues, or plan adjustments.

• Assist with general labor tasks when required.

• 1–3 years of experience in underground utility installation preferred.

• Ability to read and understand utility plans (preferred).

• Experience with lasers, grade rods, and measuring equipment.

• Knowledge of proper pipe materials, bedding requirements, and installation processes.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Must follow all OSHA and company safety standards.

• Valid driver’s license preferred.
