Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Room patients, obtain and accurately document vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration)
- Obtain and record patient medical history, chief complaint, and reason for visit
- Prepare examination and treatment rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking of supplies
- Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and minor in-office surgeries
- Administer medications, injections, and immunizations per provider order and within scope of practice
- Perform basic laboratory tests (e.g., urinalysis, glucose checks, rapid strep, EKGs) and specimen collection
- Prepare and label specimens for outside laboratory testing
- Document patient information accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Schedule patient appointments, referrals, and diagnostic testing
- Communicate with patients regarding test results, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions as directed by the provider
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment
- Monitor and maintain inventory of medical and clinical supplies
- Respond to patient phone calls and portal messages regarding clinical questions, prescription refills, and appointment needs
- Follow all infection control, safety, and OSHA guidelines
- Participate in quarterly training sessions
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with training new medical assistants or clinical support staff
- Assist with front-desk coverage during staff shortages (check-in/check-out, insurance verification)
- Assist in ordering and organizing office and clinical supplies
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or physician
