Job Summary

The Executive Director is accountable for advancing the mission, vision and values of Palmetto Place Children & Youth Services. This position reports to the Board of Directors, and directly to the President of the Board.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director will report the results and the progress of new and ongoing strategic initiatives as set by the Board of Directors.

Operations and Programming

  • Coordinate the work of the Board and staff in assuring that the focus of programming is directed toward the agency’s mission
  • Report key performance metrics to the Board monthly
  • Develop, maintain and deploy effective social and development services needed to achieve the primary mission of serving the children and youth placed in the care of the organization
  • Observe the trends of local and regional community so as to deliver programs that adequately align the shelter with future growth opportunities to assist in meeting those needs
  • Oversee the maintenance of the organization’s facilities, the efficient use of supplies and utilities and operations in compliance with health, safety, fire code and funding/regulatory agency standards
  • Manage relationship with DSS to facilitate referrals and placement of youth within the organization
  • Manage and maintain relationships with government agencies and grantors relevant to Palmetto Place’s services and mission

Employee Engagement

  • Provide professional leadership in service to the agency’s mission, employing, engaging, and discharging staff and volunteers
  • Establish a psychologically safe culture with a focus on quality of life for staff
  • Supervise, train, and conduct semi-annual performance evaluations of staff
  • Manage employee compensation and benefits

Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage an annual budget, including justification and/or reports as required by funding and/or licensing agencies. Recommend necessary budget revisions to the Board
  • Ensure long-term financial sustainability through fundraising, grants, and partnerships
  • Ensure grant compliance
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure fiduciary and regulatory compliance with all reporting requirements as mandated by various oversight authorities (i.e. IRS, Secretary of State, FASB, etc.)
  • Keep the Board informed of the agency’s financial status
  • Oversee the annual audit process

Fundraising, Development and Community Relations

  • Lead fundraising strategies including donor cultivation, grant writing, and event planning
  • Partner with major foundations, corporations, local companies and both state and federal government to secure grant funding. Manage funds as directed/needed and provide timely grant funding reports to grantors.
  • Maintain and secure new general contributions from new and existing donors and organizations to obtain funding required to maintain services throughout the year
  • Ensure grantors, donors and volunteers are recognized and are shown appreciation
  • Act as the liaison/point of contact between Palmetto Place and the community
  • Maintain working relationships with other public and non-profit agencies
  • Plan and execute at least two annual major fundraising community engagement events
  • Educate the community on the organization’s services and mission

Liaison with the Board

  • Act as primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization
  • Participate in Board meetings, establish the meeting agenda, and keep Board members abreast of any risks to the organization, as well as the overall mission, goals, and objectives
  • Effectively communicate Board and staff input regarding development and implementation of organizational policies
  • Serve as staff liaison to Board Committees and participate with the President of the Board on the selection of committee chairs and members
  • Communicate to the President of the Board on operational and/or Board priorities
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Board

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work preferred. Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required
  • 5 years working in a non-profit sector or mission-driven organization; 3 years non-profit leadership experience preferred
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Demonstrated fundraising record in meeting annual fundraising goals
  • Ability to develop relationships with large individual and corporate donors, state and local agencies and charitable funding organizations
  • Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
