What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe position at Palmetto Ophthalmology Associates, P.A.?
We are looking for bright, motivated individuals who are looking to join a strong team! Ophthalmic technician or other medical experience is a plus, but is not required.
Job Summary
Assist patients and providers with direct and indirect patient care. Participates in maintaining medical record documentation in EHR system as required. Serves as a provider’s scribe as needed.
Responsibilities
· Initiates patient evaluations, documenting CC, HPI, ROS, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately
· Performs pre-exam testing to include, but not limited to: visual acuity, refraction, lensometry, assessment of pupils, EOMs, VF, IOP, and angles
· Performs testing including HVF, OCT, topography, and biometry,
Responsible for patient flow and patient work-up for all physicians
· Completes requests for prescription refills as authorized by physicians with thorough documentation in patient’s chart
· Assist in minor surgical procedures and/or laser treatments as directed by physician
· Educate patients regarding administration of ocular medications as directed by physician
· Instruct patients in care, insertion, and removal of contact lenses
· Ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked properly
· Adheres to policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED
· Must be flexible and have the ability to multitask while maintaining professionalism
· Strong organizational and time management skills
· Exhibits a high level of quality through attention to detail
· Ensures clear and efficient communication with physicians, staff, and patients
· Must be available to work in all three locations as needed: Lexington, Irmo, Leesville

*Pay for this position will be based on individual experience. Experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
